Car dies and it shiftsin to gear really hard

I have a 1998 oldsmobile regency and when I am stopped at a red light and take off it dies alot of times when the car is in low gear when it shifts into second or third it shifts really hard. I took it to auto zone and one of the workers plugged something up to it to see why check engine light was on and it set off one code and that code said I have a defective gas cap, or there was a vacuum leak to the engine.

Sounds like you have a severe vacuum leak. Poor vacuum will cause the trans to shift hard, very hard, and will also cause driveability concerns. Check all of your vacuum lines make sure they are intact, and not broken or leaking, and replace any that look questionable.

Have you at all serviced the automatic gear box? one possibility is the gear box. Also the vibration is either broken gear box or engine mountings broken or weak.

How do you get the camshaft sensor out of a 1990 oldsmobile regency

Un bolt it pull it out. Most likely it will be a bad magnet on the cam sprocket. Over time they will fall apart. The timing cover will need to come off to repair along with the cam gear.

Oldsmobile Regency 1996. Engine trouble.Engine will not start.

If you can find the starter, tap on it with a hammer, not too soft but not too hard.Try it several times. This will usually work if the starter is going.REALLY!If it is too difficult to find or get to,call a shop and ask them.If they want you to bring it in without answering, hang up and call someone else.Someone will give you a free opinion.
