Could be your blower motor resister, here's a link to what it looks like,it's located by nblower motor, just a couple of screws hold it on.Autozone will refund part if it doesn't solve problem. Here's where the blower motor is..
It may be your blower motor RESISTOR, in gm cars it may look like a card that is connected near the blower motor, under the dash, on most cars this is what gives you variable speeds, except on the HIGH speed is usually wired directly to the battery through a relay.
Your looking for the blower resistor. Its on the passenger side under
the dash. Two of the wires go the the blower motor. The wire connector
and the resistor can burn or corrode. The replacement is easy two
screws hold the resistor in and the connector can be replace with ****
connectors.
Having to increase speed to get any heat means that your coolant may be low, as far as only 1 speed, the switch for the heater may not be working properly
Could be the resistor. It may be either under the dash or under the hood. You can buy one and put it in but check all the fuses first. The resistor is a thing that goes into the heater box . It controls the fan speeds. The highest speed is usually handled by a relay. The resistor has these coil spring like things on the backside and they can burn out. You won't see them until you remove it. It will have a plug in with fairly heavy wires, maybe 5 or 6 wires
you need a blower motor controller. call your local bmw dealer thay will know what you are talking about cause thay have had trouble with this. i think thay offer a updated part.
coolant flows thru heater core all the time temp is controlled by doors.you have a blockage in core, try removing hoses and backflushing heater core probably a little bit of scale stopping inlet.the fan speed is probably the blower resistor it is locateed next to blower motor under dash check the plug they burn up
