If it was me i would stop by your local Ford dealership in the parts department and they be able to print you out some pictures and a diagram showing you how to do it if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your car wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

Where abouts is the igbition switch located on a ford taurus 1996

Inspect/Test/Replace The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.

  • Remove the ignition switch wiring harness.
  • Unbolt it from its position.
  • Bolt the new switch into position.
  • Attach the witing harness.

Have an escort si 1996,the sidelights, rear lights, front and rear fog lights.normal beam is ok and the brake lights.could this be a relay or the stalk as i have checked the bulbs and fuses.

do you not have High beams? or are they dim? If dim sounds like alternator. If no high beams then steering column light switch bad.

Ford escort 1996 Fuel Relay

hi..Your fuse panel is right below your steering column
to the left. It is mounted to the left side of your interior.
Open your door, get on your hands and knee's, and
look straight it may be a little up depending on how it
is mounted.
check it out..
thank u..

this is a common problem because the ignition switc gets ;oose and in the process could have grounded under the steering column so just repair the wires to the starter motor and instal the new ign switch and you may end up replacing the starter motor also

Ignition cylinder removal

If your vehicle is equipped with air bags and you don't know how to disable them, you should not attempt to do this repair yourself. You need to remove the steering wheel, (a puller is required for this), and remove the multifunction switch. Lower the steering column by removing the upper mount bolts, and this will enable you to remove the cylinder. The switch is a separate part beneath the cylinder.

My 1998 Ford escort

It's probably your Clock Spring in your steering column. It's a tape strip of wires behind your steering wheel and if it snapped (which happens very easily) than your blinkers would not shut of automatically(when you turn them on you have to turn them off as well) your airbag light comes on and ceases to work, and most of the time your horn shuts down too. I've had that problem with two of my cars. A 1998 Ford Escort and a 2000 Kia Sephia (Which I dont recommend anyone purchasing. A recall was made on that car because it couldnt have a set of brake pads last more than a month. Sometimes the rotors had to be replaced as well.) Anywho. Have you mechanic look at that or go purchase one and put it in yourself.
