Question about 2001 Pontiac Sunfire
More than likely your fuel pump went out. spray a small amount of fuel (like 1 or 2 ccs from a syringe, or similer device) into your intake, and try starting it. If it fires, but doesn't continue to run, then it's not getting fuel. The fuel pump is the most common problem. You can also try to "wake up" the fuel pump by hitting the fuel tank with your hand (underneath the back of the car) and trying it again. If it works, then remember, it is only a temporary thing...it WILL quit again, and probably for good, so don't drive it anywhere you can't handle being stuck. Other possible problems; fuel pump relay, bad injector, and ignition fault. The prime that you give it will determine which direction to go. If you prime it wiith a little fuel and it doesn't fire, look at your ignition system. If it does, then the ignition is working fine; you need to look at the fuel system. Hope that helps you, and hope you get your car back on the road soon.
