I have a 1988 F150 4.9 straight six. It used to idle up in the mornings and then idle down when the engine got warm. Now it won't idle in the mornigs at all. And sometimes wwhile it is setting in park ,the engine revs up for no reason.

It seems to me that you have an air leak somewhere in the fuel vacuum system. Get some check all obvious vacuum lines. If not check the gasket directly under the fuel system. (That is , if you have carburator system.) If it is Electronic Fuel Injector, check all the valves like the IAC (Idle Air Control ) it is near or on the air cleaner filter. Take it off and clean it with carb cleaner. Or spray the valve directly through the hole in the EFI . Run the car to oopwerating temerture. Then take off the duct work from the air filter system. Run the engine to about 12-1300 RPM and spray directly inside to the side of the hole where the hose goes into the EFI. Do this as many times as need about 3 times will tell you if this is the problem. Spray liberally for a good 10 secs. Stop the engine , let the cleaner soak in, then repeat the process. Check the EGR valve located at the front of the engine connected to the big rubber hose that goes into the air cleaner connection. Check for leaks coming from the EGR or replace the EGR if your not sure . they are not that expensive.

This idle problem can be 2 things, one there could be a faulty idle solonoid or 2 it could be the automatic choke, on older vehicles the spring inside the choke deteriorates and thus the whole unit will need to be replaces, wouldn't hurt for you just to check your vacuum lines as well, check for splits and deterioration. Good luck

Mitsubishi Triton V6 lacks power on acceleration

full power is only achieved when the engine is fully warm(operating temp).so if you accelerate more than, say, a third of the gas pedal, the car will feel sluggish.
this is more apparent when first starting the car in the morning in winter.almost like the car is going to stall.
most wear in the engine is leaving it to idle when cold you should always drive the car straight away from cold.then when hot turn on the a/c if required....

Warm up

The high idle is caused by the choke and the high idle on the carb. It is working normal and you do won't to warm up this motor before going. When it is warm and you hit the gas it activates the choke pull off to bring the idle to normal. Your mechanic is used to fuel injection that will control the fuel/air mix according to temp. I still let my injected cars warm up so the oil can thin a little. If you jump on the highway with cold thick oil it can all wind up in the to of the motor.
