Use 98 octane fuel as it burns better and you get a few miles more per tank,94 octane is not as good and usually you can smell the difference from the tail pipe, use brand name eg;mobil or Shell Bp not independants as sometimes the fuel is bought on price not quality

Engine light staying on

The engine light comes on from some kind of problem with the engine. It could be a sensor of any kind. The best thing to do is go to a place like AutoZone and have them scan it and find out what is going on. One thing you could check is the gas cap, if she put gas in it and didn't get the cap on tight it could set a code and turn on the light. If you get the cap on right the light should eventually go out. Please rate my answer so I get the points for answering your question.

Engine check light is on, what kind of problem could it be? The engine check indicater on my dash board popped up this morning and I need to know what kind of problem it could be.

The best thing to do is to take it to a trusted mechanic or the dealer. But with my experience, I had the similar solution. What it turned out to be was the gas cap on my vehicle was bad. Yep, the gas cap. The seal around the cap that seals it with the tank was allowing air to pass through into my tank, resulting in the check light coming on. It could also be an oxygen sensor on the motor. This you would have to take to the mechanic for them to run diagnostics. The gas cap is a cheap thing to try. If that doesn't fix it, go to the car doctor.

1984 Chrysler LaBaron fuel recommendation

Premium. Gas is rated by octane lnumbers and those numbers have stayed the same over the years. Mid gas would not have a high enough octane rating for your engine.

Yesterday we got gas and going down the road had to down shift out of 5th gear because we lost power then had to down shift again cause we lost power again and so on and eventually it died. But we managed...

It seems theres some kind of fuel (gas) starvation to the carburator (or injectors if its a fuel injection).
If this has happenned after you fill her up with gas, thn probabely this gas filled is the culprit.
Best would be to drop all of the gas and check , and also check the fuel pump and the fuel filter.
Hope this helps.
