Question about 2001 Pontiac Aztek

2 Answers

My 2001 Pontiac Aztek's fuel gauge works until about 1/2 way through a full tank of gas and then starts reading erratically. Example: drove 400 km on tank (tank usually yeilds approx. 520 km) and it was inaccurately reading 3/4 full and then 20 km later is sitting at full. What is the problem and how do we fix it?

The float for that is in the gas tank and could be faulty. There is an assembly that goes in your tank that that has the pump as well as that float on it. could be loose and only registers half of the time. it could also be the gauge on the dash itself.

It is one of two things the fuel gauge in the tank is bad or the gauge in the dash is bad...I would check with the dealer to see if they have seen that problem before...they maybe a recall for that problem...

I have a 2004 pontiac montana. for about two years the fuel guage would fold over and read 125 degrees when the tank is full. it woulld stay there until tank was empty and the needle would drop to empty,...

It could be a bad fuel gauge in the dash unit, but....
Usually it's "The bad".
The fuel level sending wipe arm and windings on the fuel sender wear and send erratic readings. The only cure is a replacement fuel gauge sender.
The check engine light should not be related to the erratic fuel readings.
"The good".
If you have over 200,000kms or 120,000 miles on your van you need a new fuel pump anyway,so have a complete assembly put in which will have a new fuel sender on it.

Fuel gauge doesn't work once gas reaches between 1/4 to 1/2 full, it doesn't tell me how much gas I have left. It will float above anything 1/2 to full.

Hi.
Inside your fuel tank there is a circuit board that the float arm is attached to. The circuit board and the arm are wearing and losing contact with one another in the area where you get no reading.
The fuel tank on your vehicle will need to be removed to access it.

Gas gauge reads full when underway. However, when

Most likely it a bad fuel level sensor on you fuel pump. You will have to replace the fuel pump as that is the only way to replace the sensor for you fuel gauge. The sensor is built into the fuel pump. The contacts on the sensor become corroded over time and cause the sensor to malfunction causing your fuel gauge to read full all the time. I have a 2001 Montana extended version that had the same problem. In order to know when I needed to fill the tank, I would completely fill it each time I put fuel in and reset my trip odometer. I would go 400 miles on the tank before I would refuel until we were able to replace the fuel pump.

2004 Pontic Aztek gas gauge

probably you got a problem with your fuel gauge sender that goes inside in the fuel tank, that sender is only a coil that works together with a fuel lever,if you want to save some money buy it separate from the fuel pump.

My 2001 aztek has a fuel guage malfunction most of the time it is stuck on full but the digital read out shows that i have used 7 gallons can this be the bcm or just a censor on the fuel pump

It is most likely the sending unit in the gas tank, this senses the amount of fuel in the tank and relays that info to the gauges and computer.

My 01 bonneville oil pressure gauge is showing 120 and my gas gauge is all over the place

HI, the oil pressure sending unit may be malfunctioning at this point. this will cause erratic readings. if your oil level is proper and there are no apparent oil leaks, you will need to replace the oil pressure sending unit. this will fix the erratic oil pressure readings.

Concerning the gas gauge. this device also has a sending unit that sends the correct fuel level reading to the gas gauge via wire transfer. this sending unit is located and attached to the fuel pump assembly inside the gas tank. replacing this device will fix this issue as well.

Please rate and god bless:)
