Hi, this is a common problem and only points at one thing being at fault, the problem you are having is going to be with the oxygen sensor(or lambda sensor for its true name)
Now the reason it points to this is that when the car is cold the oxygen sensor isnt working as it only starts working when it reaches a certain temperature and this is when your getting the problem then whilst the car is still hot it just wont start but as soon as it cools down you will find it starts as normal.

Replacing this part will solve your problem.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

1991 dodge ramcharger 318 engine stalls driving down road. shut key off for a few seconds starts right back up and runs fine. any ideas?

It's losing one of two things - fuel or electricity. I would check and or replace the fuel pump and fuel filter first.

Dodge Intrepid Problems

Water temperature at 230 Degrees F is at boiling point in a pressurized system and it is shutting down because the CPU is reading possible damage to the engine . I suggest you find out why the coolant temperature is so high as 212 f is boiling and 220 would be maximium. I suggest that the sensors are controlling the CPU and if so there would be no fault codes recorded . Check the radiator for flow restrictions and check the compression for head problems.

What would cause my 1995 dodge dakota to shut off when driving it down the road? I t does not run rough or bad and has plenty of power. I have cjanged the knock sensor, distributor, cap and rotar, plugs...

Dakotas and Durangos are notorious for intermittent failures of the crankshaft position sensor. If you get a shutdown like someone just turned the key off, then this is a likely suspect. Fortunately, they are relatively cheap and easy to replace by the DIYer.

Car starts then shuts down as if no power

In year /model 87, code 23 was oxygen sensor stuck in full rich position. I'd be tempted to try a new one.
