I have 93 Lexus Ls400 when I hit the gas it makes a screaching sound as thou it needs a belt.Someone told me that it could be the buschings in the alternator. What could be my problem?

first look at belt if loose worn cracked glazed or just plain old and worn out change because a bad belt makes noise when slipping on pulleys ------if belt is good than look at belt tensioner ---- and pulleys to all components ---and listen to the area when vehicle running for grinding or squeal

I have lexus ls400 1995 with a loose power steering pulley. I try turning the nut , but it's not working. It's still on the car, does anyone know how to tighten this up without remove of the pump.. thanks.

if it is the pulley that is loose and not due to bad bearings in pump i would recommend removing pump in order to properly torque nut because the last thing you need is for that pulley to come off and do some real damage like going through your radiator.

the tension looks like this

replacement is not too difficult. usually the bolt in the center turns opposite to how you normally loosen bolts. to remove the hole tension should be straightforward as you will see the bolts

Setting crankshaft and camshaft timing

with crank pulley white mark on 0 remove both cam pulley covers and verify yellow painted notches are exactly on the T mark cast in the fwd cam bearing housings..IF u find that it ISNT 'in time' then remove tensioner located near crank pulley and very carefully manipulate the L and R cam sprokets to allow belt to removed from cam sprockets only... DoNOT rotate engine without T belt installed .Do NOT turn engine backwards.. ever.. be advised that should the cam timing be off by more than 3 teeth either way serious engine damage will result ..this series of engines utilizes variable intake camshaft adjustment .. This job is not for the american small block specialist of yesteryear.. even an experienced asian tech is gonna have a difficult time with this lexus .. its not quite the same engine the Tundra uses...Lexus only mods befuddle reg toyota techs
