2000 exsplorer overheats if heater is off

Thermostat is stuck..... try that first. Then look at radiator - may need replacement if calcium buildup is blocking vents and fins.
Radiator shop is best bet - they do this all the time. Had the same problem on an old Chevy - vents and fins were 90% blocked.
Mechanics kept replacing the GD thermostat......
Blockage in your radiator is usually from adding hard tap water to radiator or fill/overflow container.

I have heat in my 2001 ford exploer when idle not when moving down road

Hello Lions.
Your Explorer has a stuck open thermostat.
When sitting there is little to no air flowing through the radiator.
As you start moving it creates airflow through the rad and cools it.
Replace the thermostat and you will have heat again.

Thank you for using FixYa.

2000 Ford Explorer 5.0 V8 Leaking coolant

sounds like the thermostat gasket is leaking. Might as well change the thermostat and gasket at the same time. make sure the hose clamp is tight sometimes it needs to get tightened up. could be lealking from the hose and running down.

2005 ford explorer will only blow cold air no matter what ther thermostat is set at, and it makes a clicking noise when it is on, why is this....please help.

You may have a thermostat that is stuck closed.  If it doesn't open, hot coolant cannot reach the heater core, thereby blowing only cold air.

200 ford explorer will not shift into overdrive,

My Mom had the same problem, and ended up needing her transmission totally rebuilt. Later she was told that when Fords do this they usually just need the transmission flushed and all the filters replaced which is a way cheaper alternative and a good thing to try before you shell out 2k for a total rebuild !!!
