Idled high, replace IAC and PCV, now idles low and stalls

I have an 89 Dodge Shadow Automatic. Two weeks ago it was idling high. It would rev at ignition, stop lights, in park, etc. I took it to a mechanic, replaced the Idle Air Control and a PCV valve. Now the car stalls when in a low gear... stop lights, parking lots, etc. They tell me that it is a brand new problem with the spark plugs, MAP sensor, wiring harness, etc. They replaced my spark plugs and MAP sensor and it still stalls. Could the problem still be the IAC, could it idle too low now and stall?

Possibly a cracked or loose vacuum line. check vac lines and connections. if nothing can be seen put a small diameter hose( of appropriate length) to your ear then move the other end around the throttle body unit and manifolds. a leaking gasket or line connection will give you a noticeable whistling sound in your ear.

May be a defective IAC, or bad connection, or improperly installed, as in lost little "O" ring when putting it on. I would also be looking at TP sensor, which I would have tested in the first place. Have you tried cycling your key to retrieve problem codes yourself? ( turn key to on,(not start) then off, then on, then off, then on again, and leave on, and count flashes of check engine light. It will flash quick, then pause, then flash again. For example: 3 flashes, pause, then 3 more is code 33. 2 flashes, pause, 5 more, is code 25. When you get 5, pause 5 more, that code 55, which means end of message. Write them down, and get back to us with what you have if any.

1997 dodge dekota sport,stalls out,wont stsy running

Concerning the 1997 Dakota: I had the same problem. After a little checking and research I believed it to be the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve). I replaced it and it started right up and idled perfectly. It never stalled again. The IAC is located on the backside of the throttle body and is easy to get to and change out. Hope this helps.

My alternator warning light came on about a week ago. Before that the message "ABS and anti-skid due for service" appeared. I had ny breaks and wheels replaced about a week ago. The alternator light came...

The problem is the lights on the dash coming on! They are indicating a possible fault that needs looking at! The brake light will have been reset once the brakes were serviced so we can dismiss that! The alternator light indicates that the battery is not being charged sufficiently! If the battery is not being charged then the vehicle will only run as long as the battery has charge in it.....since it is not charging properly the car will stall if the battery is not fully charged and will cut out completely when the battery is discharged! Get the alternator checked/replaced straight away!

Revs high

If the idle speed is normal until you shift into a gear, the idle air control valve is probably raising the idle speed. Try unplugging the iac motor at idle then shift into drive.
If the IAC is raising the RPM the computer controls it, so for some reason the computer thinks the RPM needs to go up. I am assuming you do not have a check engine light on or you would have checked for trouble codes.
Just for the record, I am showing the same IAC for both transmissions on a 2.0 engine code 3.
Is it possible the battery was disconnected and the learn process needs to be done for the computer to know where normal idle speed is ?

99 mercury sable automatic trans vehicle idles very low randomly even stalls out sometimes high idle occurs as well reaches about 4000 rpm at times. engine light threw 4 codes, all to do with o2 sensors...

Sounds like a broken or torn vacum hose, pcv valve clogged, or bad Idle air control motor. Did you spray carb cleaner on vacum hoses or near the plastic intake., and did the motor rev up or down? Those codes represent a lean condition which means most like a vacum leak or clogged idle air motor. Sometimes the intake manifolds crack or the intake manifold gaskets crack. FInd that vacum leak or inpect iac motor

Idled high, replace IAC and PCV, now idles low and stalls

On modern day cars the parts that get fitted need to be adapted to the ECM using a decent diagnostic machine. I bet that this was not done and the car is now suffering as a result.
Something to try is resetting the ECU, simply disconnect battery for 10 minutes, reconnect, then start car from cold *without touching gas pedal* and leave idling until the rad fan comes on (this resets all the base idle settings) then take it for a drive - hopefully will solve the problem
