Question about 1996 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Suspect a vacuum / pneumatic leak. Can hear the vacuum pump in the trunk working continually and my cabin fan and or damper changes when accelerating and decelerating. Do you have any ideas on where to check first?

Cold& warm/air would not blow out in any vents. Put in new direction switch, air blow in all vents except the defrost vent. Swtich on defrost and it blows in dash vents in your face and nothing coming out...


The switch that controls the air flow is either operated /controlled using either wire, pneumatics, or electrically driven/controlled. Make sure that all of the connections at the damper are intact and working properly. Pneumatically driven is usually the most common on todays vehicles, so make sure you don't have a vacuum leak on any of the damper hoses.

Idles high when braking


Look for a vacuum line that is leaking, oyu canspray starting fluid around the vacuum lines when you hear a sudden change in the engine you have found your vacuum leak, Replace vacuum line accordingly.

Usually a vac leak. I would check for a leak in the HVAC control system and the line thru the firewall to the engine.

I have 1999 ford Econoline 250, air conditioning works but the air damper does not open that air to come out of the vents, I have checked all vacuum lines, before it completely shot down, the damper used...


I would be looking again for a vacuum leak. The damper failure on acceleration suggests the vacuum was weak to begin with. Would it be possible to disconnect the vacuum at the manifold and the switch and just jump directly from the manifold to the switch with a new piece of vacuum hose? That would suggest a leak somewhere else in a vacuum line. Also, have you checked the vacuum line from the switch to the damper? Can you get a connector and just bypass the switch (to see f the switch is bad?

You have a vacuum loss somewhere in the cabin area or a bad vacuum motor that operates the air flow door to all the vented areas in the cabin area.

I have a 1999 Mercedes S320, Do you know how the trunk and doors will automatically compress when you close them. For example when I close my trunk it is suppose to compress tightly once I manually close...


There are 2 pneumatic pumps in your vehicle. one is vacuum and is for your central locking, located under your rear seat bench. The other is pressure and is called your closing assist pump. It is in the trunk behind the rear liner. It also operates you reverse antennas(optional). Your doors and trunk lid are closed by pressure valves that work like little teeter totters. There is an updated relay called a convenience relay located in the right side of the trunk. It stores all the window paramers(for express up and down) as well as your closing assist parameters. In the right side of the trunk there is a fuse box. If you remove the closing assist fuse( I beleive it is # 15) for 15 seconds and then reinstall it, the parameters for your closing assist will be reset. It is possible that your vehicle already has the updated relay(called a relay but actually a microprocessor) and there is a leak in the system. After reinstalling the fuse you can see what doesn't work( one of the doors or trunk,reverse antenna) and isolate the faulty component. If everything works o.k. let it be because they have always been problematic and when they happen to fail just reset it. hopefully I have been helpful.

Fuel pump problem


Loose or faulty electrical connections at ignition coil. Check cables including ignition cables. Insufficient fuel reaching the injectors, vacuum leaks. Vacuum leak between the throttle body and intake manifold. Intake air leaks, broken vacuum lines etc. If its the fuel you suspect, try changing the fuel filter and pressure regulator.

AC Vacuum Leak


The temp blend door is operated by a vacuum motor.At higher engine rpms the manifold vacuum decreases.Most manufactures incorporate a vacuum storage tank to compensate for this lose of vacuum.So it does sound like you have a vacuum leak to the ac control unit.There should be a vacuum line going through the firewall into the cab.Inspect this line for leaks.Good Luck!!!!
