If it is a tinny rattle, I would suspect a loose heat shield on or above the exhaust. When it is cool, hit the exhaust with your hand at various points until you hear the rattle. If it is a heat shield attached to the exhaust, it can be repaired with a large hose clamp placed around it.

I hear a rattling noise while my car is in park and only when it is in park from my drivers side and as i am sitting in the car it sounds like it is right underneath me

Sounds like you have a loose heat shield that is a piece of tin between your exhaust pipe and floor of vehicle. These can rattle pretty bad. While the noise is there, look under vehicle and you may see where it's loose, or corroded.. If you get under the vehicle when it is cooled off, you can probably locat this loose shield within seconds. If it is not loose, wiggle your exhaust pipe and E brake cable. Hopefully you will find something loose

Yes, it COULD be a timing chain rattling, but again, your guess is probably better than mine at this point.

Without the ability to hear the noise it is impossible to say. Noises can be very difficult to locate when you are standing right in front of the vehicle. It is completely unachievable to perform this task remotely.

Are you sure it is coming from the engine and not the transmission? Or maybe even the exhaust? It is not likely for a timing chain noise to go away as a reult of putting the transmission in gear.

As for the misfire, when does it occur? is it at idle? Is it when you are accelerating (putting the engine under a load? Does it only misfire at high speeds? Much more info needed here.

Loud rattle noise under truck between 2,000 and 3,000 rpms. this happens through all gears and when out of gear.

if you have a protection pan on the bottom of the vehicle, check that to be sure its tight, if you have rear wheel drive, make sure the drive shaft and u joints are ok,, if all those check out to be fine, check your motor mounts. under carriage rattles can be a real pain to locate,

What would cause a rattling noise when in reverse? Sometimes it will do this in park too.

This depends on weather the rattle is in the engine/ gear box/or the Exhaust system as it can be in any one of them
THE gear box could have the reverse gear worn and the exhaust could have a loose clamp /brackets and muffler baffel plates broken away in side .
These are the most common things to look at first so jack up the car get under and bang along the exhaust with your hand and you should find the rattle.
Let me know how you get on. Ron

You didn't say which model or engine.
Check for loose heat shields, broken engine or transmission mounts.
