Question about 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

3 Answers

No fuel PSI.

I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu that ran out of gas. I put around 10 gallons of gas in it. When I tried to start it it would rough idle for a second or two and stop. I replaced the fuel filter and still would not start. I can here the fuel pump hum for about two to three seconds. I checked the fuel PSI with a gage and did not have a reading. Is it a bad fuel pump even though I heard the pump kick in?

Have you tried bleeding the fuel system.
its possible you have an air lock
On the top of the motor is a fuel rail. somewhere on the fuel rail is a little black cap. unscrew it. there will be a valve in it that looks a lot like a tire valve. put a rag over it and with the key on push the valve in to let the air out of the system. fuel will probably come out with a force of about 13 lb. so be careful and ware safety gear. gloves, goggles, ect...

Good luck

The pump is probably worn out a a result of overheating from running dry. The motor in the pump may still turn, but the vanes of the pump cannot produce adequate pressure. You can test this by using an external pump (@20 psi or higher) to feed fuel to the fuel rail from a gas can. If this starts the car, the pump is the problem. Also, try bleeding the fuel rail, just for good measure. Depress the valve on the pressure test port and have a friend switch on the ignition. You should see some amount of fuel within a minute, even if the pump is out of spec. The zero reading on the pressure gauge combined with the sound of the pump starting suggests air trapped in the fuel line.

This could be he Idle Control Valve and is around 50 dollars and a easy fix. Also try STP 5 in 1 fuel cleaner for a couple of tanks if you are using the cheap gas

After i ran out of gas?

Reset the computer & check the fuel PSI. You may want to replace the gas filter. when u run dry, the filter picks up all the dirt at the bottom of the tank. Make sure your gas PSI is good before u get into electronics. start w the basics. That would set that code too trying to start dry.Good luck

1998 chevy blazer fuel pump is putting out 55 psi but no gas is getting to the cylinders

4.3 TBI (throttle body injector) You dont have a TBI you should be equipt with a CSFI people in the field call this the spider injector, they inject fuel into tubes for each cylinder , as for the fuel pressure it should be 54 psi to 60 psi,and this is for a 4.3, The CSFI system does plug up which causes rough idle due to the poppet valve or seat,to stick open or closed,Ive ran fuel injector cleaner that has been sucesfull maybe you can try that

Ran completely out of gas last week - put gas in - car started fine- ran a little rough and idled rough. Now 10 days later MIL light on in dash and perform service message. Won't go out after several

have the fuel filter changed and have the computer checked for codes incase something else is going on and they can be cleared to turn off the light.any dirt in the lines should be out of them by now.its possible that there is dirt in the injectors and a fuel system service should be done to clean them which is a recomended service on all cars anyways.you can have the fuel pressure checked while its in the shop to make sure the pressure is within specs.

Had a 1/4 tank of gas in car but low fuel light stays on, put 5 more gallons of gas in the car and light will not go off, gas hand will not move and car will not crank 2001 Chevy Malibu

check the connection for the fuel pump at the right rear wheel just above the control arm. the connection gets corroded and causes the fuel pump and gauge not to work. if the plug looks good then most likely the fuel fump assembly is bad.

97 malibu ran outta gas suposedly will not start after adding gas

Your issue is with either spark or fuel delivery and you need to check the components in each system for proper operation. Such as pump, cables, camnshaft sensor, igniter, etc.

I have a 2005 malibu sometimes it will not start like it has a dead battery, today it did same thing but when it did start the idle was real rough it made the whole car shake. so i shut it off tried again...

if the car does start without a jump start/boost, you probably have a bad starter motor. if you pump the gas when it doesn't start, the car will run rough when it starts until the extra fuel burns off.

Fuel pump

i believe it's around 80, but anything higher than 60 should run it somewhat, just lacking power, and dogging out while accelerating, like a running out of gas symptom.
