Question about 2001 Hyundai Tiburon

1 Answer

I have had my tiburon less than a year but about a month ago the transmission started to act weird. At first it began shifting between i think third and fourth gear which made the rpms go higher than they should. after about five minutes the transmission decided to stay in 3rd gear and wouldnt shift even when the car slowed down or stopped. Later i got back in my car the problem did not re-occur for about a week but acted slightly different. the transmission shifted between 3rd and 4th but began acting normally for a few minutes then settled into 3rd again.

I would think that a code should have set. Get the engine and trans computers scanned for code. Stuck 3rd gear is trans limp home.

The trans computer has seen a problem possible a bad sensor, or an internal problem, and puts it into a safe mode, or limp home mode , it wont shift , it will stay in 3rd gear, this way this reduces the possibility of further damage trans damage, when you turn the ignition off and back on it resets the tcm, my advice is to take it to your local dealer, they can diag your trans as they know the product, i dont advise pep boys, or discount auto parts.

About a month ago I began hearing rattling noises when I would depress the clutch. Over a few days the noise became less noticeable but then I started having trouble shifting gears (5 speed manual...

If the bearings were worn out due to high milage, the input shaft will have too much play in it. To replace all of the bearings is a big job, and a lot of shops won't do it. They may have replaced the transmission to save time, as replacing the bearing is very time consuming. So it all stems on what your final cost was.

'99 Dodge Intrepid with a weird transmission

This could be a number of things but my 99 ES had a bad speed sensor that caused similar problems. Your best to have a mechanic check and replace if needed.
Don't drive it too much before getting this fixed.

2001 impala shifting issue

I have a 2001 base impala and 6 months ago I experienced the same problem. I was driving on the street and all of a sudden my car acted as if it was in neutral. I pulled over and neither of the shifts engaged. The dealership said that my torque converter went bad. Somehow the bad torque converter caused shavings to get into my transmission. They gave me a new torque converter and flushed my transmission. My transmission was almost 2 years old; therefore, it was under warranty.

I had the same problem, replacing you thermostat should do the trick, i spent 8.99 on a new thermostat and 99 cents on a seal. For some reason engine temperature affects the transmission shifting. Good luck

The warmer the engine gets, the harder the truck is to shift!

replace the fluid in clutch resaviour ALL of it
ILL bet the fluid is dark and not clear you got moisture in the fluid

water expands much more than hydraulic fluid to hot temps
making less "room" for piston travel in clutch slave
