Question about 2005 Subaru Outback

1 Answer

How can you tell if subaru has california emmissions. I need to change the O2 sensor to stop the MIL from going off. The dealership said the sensor was 460 I think that's a bit steep. Any answers are appreciated. CarpeD

Thats not even close!
under the hood look for white emission sticker on hood or radiator frame,it will state if calif or not.
Check with a NAPA parts store instead of that dealer.

When you replace an O2 Sensor the mil lamp
goes out right away,no need to clear codes
Your car may not do that, don't know
Have you looked at scan tool data for fuel trim
or had a shop back probe all the O2 Sensors with
a scope
I test all parts before & new parts going in,don't learn
anything other wise, or you have your situation
You may still have codes there
You may have a Converter that is worn out & the new
sensor has little oxygen to work with !!!
You may have vacuum leaks or exhaust leaks before the sensors
My question is-- assuming a repair shop is in the mix
Are they not capable of the answers to the fix??

Is the wiring good going to the O2 sensors? Maybe just look the car over and see if you have any bad grounds. They can do weird things. Could be a bad ICU.

My 1998 chevy suburban K1500 with 160k miles failed emmissions test because of a P0135 code (O2sensor in bank 1, sensor 1 malfunction) and the MIL on. All emmissions levels were within spec, and only...

check the connector on some chevys they go bad i have replaced them before so try a new connector or maybe that the wire got burned with the exaust pipe or even disconnected ?? good luck.

!997 Toyota Camry code P1135 was set I cleared code and sam code came on again while driving can I get where to start repair

Follow the link below for an intense article about P1135 and possible solutions. It sounds like it's most likely an O2 sensor but there are other possibilities.

Prerunner wont pass smog due to engine service light

Not positive on this so consider only. The o2 sensor is what actually tells everything else what is going on with emmission and everything else adjusts to what info it relays. The o2 is also subjected to extreme temps and cooling cycles. So, instead of spending money on no answer diagnostism give replacement of o3 sensor so consideratio. If you choose to replace, wd40 and let exhaust cool down. Good Luck.

MIL on

Actually the PO139 is Downstream O2 sensor slow to respond, And PO400 is EGR flow malfunction. But any why it sounds like the problem is in the exhaust system. I would start by checking the EGR valve first. Make sure the vacuum is operating it properly. If it is not that would make the O2 sensor slow to read or give the emissions system problems with oxygen readings. Good luck and have a good day.

It probably is the converter. The check engine light has nothing to do with maintenance at all, nor does it really directly concern the engine. The check engine light comes on for emmission purposes. Such as converter, loose gas cap and all kinds of sensors.

What does error code 55 mean for Subaru leagcy 2005

This is a communication error with the BIU (body integrated unit). Need to take to the dealer, possible that the ECU needs to be replaced to fix this issue. It should be covered under the federal emmission wrty.

Bad o2 sensor at back

LIKE I TELL MY CUSTOMERS...FOR STARTERS YOU NEED BRAKES BECAUSE IF IT DOESNT STOP IT DOESNT MATTER.IF THE O2 SENSOR IS BAD THAT WILL THROW OFF THE WHOLE EMMISSIONS SYSTEM.WHICH CAN CLOG YOU INJECTORS,RUIN YOUR PLUGS,CAUSE YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON ECT.YOUR COMPUTER KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM & THE CAR WONT RUN WELL UNTIL ITS FIXED.STEP 1- BRAKES,02 SENSOR,TUNE UP,OIL CHANGE....WHATEVER ELSE YOU NEED.I KNOW IT STINKS.,JUST DO IT ONCE & DO IT RIGHT.

Brake booster

Emmision is the fumes produced by your exhaust. Do a tune up on the car and have it checked for exhaust leaks. Spark plugs, Wires, oil change if needed, O2 sensor, Air filter and such thing as this should put it back into order. Which state is this? If it is california then you might want a professional opinion because they no more about smog canisters and stuff likethat. But tune up should do it.
