Question about 1995 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

My park avenue runs for a while then dies out. It normally starts right up again and runs fine. When it starts to die and I give it gas it seems as if it is flooding out.

This may be an ignition control module overheating. The module is found in the distributor, underneath the distributor cap on many models. If your vehicle has coil packs (is distributorless), the ignition module is underneath these coil packs. Once removed, most parts stores can test the module for you. When having the module tested, make sure it is tested 3-7 times in succession, as heat problems often will not show until it has cycled several times. Sometimes, this can be cured by installing fresh thermal transfer grease/heatsink compound on the metal portion of the module, available at radio shack and at some auto parts stores. Another possible culprit is the fuel pressure regulator, but this seems much less likely.

2000 buick park avenue ultra starts sputturing and then dies while driving. no lights come on and had the codes checked . shows nothing . just drove 2,500 miles on trip run perfect . now dying again

Is it possible that your getting bad gas in your area? since it ran fine on the trip and now that your back home its not? maybe try a different gas station. if not you'll probably have to take it to a well equipped shop to have it hooked up to a scan tool that can read data while your driving to see the ecm info when the problem occurs.good luck as intermittent engine problems can be difficult sometimes.

In park the engine dies; only will run if given gas

It sounds like there is a problem with the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. Its job is to open and let air into the manifold when the throttle is closed at idle. If it does not open, the engine dies at idle. The IAC is mounted on the throttle body. Possibly the valve is clogged or stuck, in which case it could be ok again if it is removed and cleaned. Or it is broken, and needs to be replaced. Or, there is a problem with its electrical connection, that needs to be traced. Good luck, let me know if you have any questions.
