After a few minutes of running my engine check engine light and all the other red lights come on. When this happens and what are it won't work the gas gauge temperature gauge quit working. The gas gauge goes to empty and the temperature gauge drops to nothing. I was just driving down the road everything was fine and then this happened.

I know there is no problem with the battery terminals. They are perfectly clean and tight. The alternator voltage is fine. I already checked these things before I asked the question.

  • fishing22xz Nov 18, 2009

He said might be a loose connection where are you referring to the connections under the fuse panel or somewhere else.

  • fishing22xz Nov 18, 2009

Would this caused my bright lights, not to work. My windshield wipers won't come home either unless I put the key in the accessory position and then turn on wipers. What do you think.

  • fishing22xz Nov 18, 2009

Shortly after I start my engine all the warning lights on the Consul light up my headlights won't go to bright windshield wipers will only work if I put the key in the accessory position. Turn them on and then start the engine. I was told it might be the battery cables, but they're okay. They're very clean. I was told to jiggle the key in the ignition that did nothing. Still looking for a reason all these things could suddenly help but wants everything was working before. This drove about 5 miles and suddenly this happened.

Where is an ambient sensor located on 2005 Chrysler town and country. And what does it do. If it makes a difference it's a 3.3 engine.

Hello. You definitely need to get to the bottom of this issue before you do much more driving as, most likely, your car is going into stall mode when all of these lights come on. If it does stall you lose your power steering, and your power brakes, etc. NOT GOOD. I recommend that you take your vehicle to have the computer scanned. This can be done at a dealership, or often an autoparts store nearby. Call around and check on prices, many autozones, for instance will do a scan for free. A scan should be able to pinpoint your trouble so you will know what to have fixed.

Take it to your nearest auto zone or comparable parts store. They have a code reader and can hook it up to your car and tell you the exact code that is being thrown. Once you get the codes that will give you a much clearer sign of what the issue is.
Thank you,
Lee

I have seen this happen a few times on Chrysler vehicles.
It sure has the symptoms of a bad ignition switch. The next time it happens wiggle the key a little (not enough to make it change position) and see if it makes it normal again.
Contacts inside the switch are losing continuity.
Your gauges are losing power for them to operate but the ignition system still has power.
A good shop can change one in about an hour or less.

Have the battery connections checked to make sure there is no corrosion in between the cable ends, and the battery post. Then have the alternator checked while the engine is running,at the battery. It should have 13.65 to 14.25 vols, anything less is not enough. Also, have someone hook up a code reader to the vehicle to see what codes are showing,to further diagnoses.

I am really sorry for asking, but I did not know you had checked these things out already, have the codes displayed to see what codes are stored. The problem might only be bad connection at the cluster .I have had a few here lately that turned out ,that is all it was, removal of the cluster, and tightening the connectors ,gentley bending them to fit tighter has helped these situations.I hope this will solve the problem.

I was talking about the cluster behind the display,it is powered by a harness that is plugged on the rear of it,pull this display out,and tighten the terminals by bending them, gently to make them fit tighter.

I think the ignition switch is bad,I did not know all the facts, but the ignition switch would have to be bad,on account of the wipers only working in the acc, position, but the ,no bright lights would have to be a dimmer switch,or bad high beam bulbs. Now before doing anything, look at the fusible links. They look like wires, but when pulled on,they come apart like taffy. They will be on the starter along with the main battery cable,or on a stud(may have red cap on it)coming off the positive cable from battery. Then check all fuses.Check these fuses with a test light, touching both sides of the fuses.the test light will light up as you touch both sides of the fuses,if only one side lights up,the fuse is blown. The reason,I say to use a test light,is because this will tell you if the fuses are dead or not, when they should be hot!You will need to do this with the key on,and the lights on,high beams,if you find a fuse that should be hot,and it is dead, that will be the problem. No power to the fuse.Check the ground from the engine to the body, and frame, this gives the body circuits ground,if there is not a ground from the engine to the body, put one in.If this is happening ,off and on,this could be the reason. So look for all these problems, and let me know what you find.

When stopped at a red light my car shut off

this may have been caused by the alternator not putting out proper voltage. have car scanned and find the codes. if power is lost to pcm and other sensors the vehicle will die out. after the problem is fixed, turn off check engine light with scanner. good luck carl, check alternator voltage. car off should be at least 13 volts, when running should be 14 to 14.5.

2003 civic loses all power duing driving - engine stops dash lights go out and then cannot restart the car for a few minutes

I would first check all the wiring harnes multi plugs, if you have one that is loose that would cause an intermient fault and if left to progress could over heat and in extreme circumstances could set on fire, i am not tring to scare you but i have seen this have to various makes of vehicles. the connections could be arcing. if they all seem ok, obviously check the battery conections and the main fuse link that supplies the fuse board, they are usually near the main battery and are quiet say about 20mm long. another sugestion is the ignition switch could be faulty. if you can get the cowling off from around the steering column and get access to the switch, with the engine running give it a wiggle, this will also work for the wiring connections, have the engine running the checking the conections if loose or faulty it should cut the engine out, ONLY DO THIS TO THE 12 VOLT CIRCUIT, DO NT TOUCH THE IGNITION LEADS OR WIRIES UNDER THE BONNET WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNING. Hope this helps
