Question about 1992 Ford Crown Victoria

2 Answers

I put a 97 Police interceptor engine in a 92 crown vic, I used the transmission that came from the 92 engine which I believe is AODE. I changed the wiring from front to back with wiring that came from a 97 grand marquis. when I try to crank it the starter clicks like it want to do something but it want start. the starter is good I had it tested at autozone. What else could be going on.

Follow the positive cable all the way to the starter making sure all connections are tight. Then, starting at rge battery post remove and clean the negative cable connection making sure of a good connection. Check the starter relay by jumping the battery side to the starter side. This should motor the starter. (cause it to crank)
Good Luck

The police package interceptors had a common problem with the fans seizing up. There was a TSB ford released to correct the issue which called for the replacement of the electric fan assembly with an updated fan assembly.

The PCM is programed for the LS engine parameters and now that you have changed engines the signal from the new engine are out of parameters> Either see if you can get the PCM reprogrammed at a dealership or purchase a new PCM and program the chip with the police engine interceptor to the vehicle> you may also return to the place where you got the engine and purchase the PCM for the police vehicle.

Definitely have to remove the driveshaft on a rwd crown vic, or you have to leave the engine running and the car in neutral to keep the transmission lubricated

Has anyone bothered to scan the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) or the GEM (General Electronic Module) to see if there are any fault codes? Does the engine run OK when this happens? I had a Grand Marquis that was doing something similar and the modules had several U-codes. Finally found the problem in the Transmission Range Sensor - it was shorting out the data line.

Does the crown vic police intercepter take as much oil as the regular crown vic? (when changing the oil and filter)

I ~think~ the 1999 is the same as the 2000 (mine is a 2000 P71)

The 2000 CVPI (Crown Vic Police Interceptor) owners manual recommends the following:

Engine Oil - Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil 5.0 quarts

Transmission Fluid - Motorcraft Mercon V ATF 13.9 quarts (fluids Mercon & Mercon V are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE, DO NOT MIX)

Fuel Tank - 19.0 gallons

Break Fluid - DOT 3

Rear Axle Lubricant - Motorcraft 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant 3.75 pints (add 4 oz of Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equilavent meeting Ford Spec. EST-M2C118-A for complete refill of Traction-Lok Rear Axles)

Engine Data - 4.6L V8 Engine
Cubic Inches - 281
Required Fuel - 87 Octane
Firing Order - 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Spark Plug Gap - 1.3-1.4 mm (0.052-0.056 inch)
Ignition System - Coil On Plug
Compression Ratio - 10.0:1

I hope this helps!
