The flashing gear shift select indicators probably mean that the BCM can't tell what gear the car is in because either the lever is loose, or the selector switch or cable is out of adjustment. Try moving the lever toward Reverse from Park without actually shifting it, and see if it stops flashing. Is it column or console shift? Sometimes the lever on a steering column mounted shifter can get a bit loose, making it hard to shift properly. If the indicator jumps around while moving the shifter, or says you're in a different gear than you actually are, then most likely the switch itself is bad.

87 oldsmobile toronado not getting any spark

ECM requires both crank sensor signal and cam sensor signal to fire the coils. Check for spark at the plugs first. Check the plug wires, then the coils. Only if you have no spark at any coil would I suspect the ignition module, and even then only if you have a good crank and cam signal. Do you have any codes stored in the ECM? They could help pinpoint the problem.

Is the ac compressor controlled by the computer on a 87 olds toronado?

An '87 Olds Toronado has three computers: the ECM (engine control module), the BCM (body control module), and the IPC ( instrument panel cluster). The A/C compressor is controlled by the body control module.

Codes for 1987 Oldsmobile Toronado

What codes? Why did you replace the crank sensor? Do you have spark at the plugs? Do you have fuel pressure? Is there a message in the dash display?

Location of BCM and ECM on 92 olds. toronado

I'm not 100% positive about a 1992 Toronado, but on my 1986 Toronado the BCM is behind and to the upper left of the glove box, and the ECM is behind the right side kick panel in front of the door. GM had a habit of moving them around from year to year.

I have recently purchased an 86 olds toronado that is having electrical issues. The dash does not work, The A/C system bilnks in and out, and none of the interrior lights work. Any help?

Go to faxonautoliterature.com. They carry original dealer sevice manuals. They list an original GM repair manual for your car for $24-$39 depending on condition. It will have a complete wiring diagram and that is the most likely source of your problems. 20 plus years provides a lot of opportunity for insulation to rub bare, grounds to corrode, mice to build nests etc. I've used them before and had excellent service. Hope this helps.

Try unpluging the field connector from the alternator after you shut it off for the night, the internal regulator may be shorted draining the power from the battery.

I have an '87 Olds Toronado and my problem is the battery goes dead over night while parked and shut off. I have had the GENERATOR light come on and also ELECTRICAL light come on. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the battery is not holding a full charge...or not being fully charged by the alternator...(may be a corroded connection) Both of these are free tests at your local parts store...if both test fine...(unlikely) the starter has to be shorting out to drain the battery overnight...Hope this helps.
