This is an electric fuel pump and they do wear out, this pump is located inside the gas tank.

!st of all unless you have the experience and the correct tools do not play with the high pressure side of the fuel system. The pressure that is created on the high side is such that will cause serious damage or fatility "Seriously". The system needs to be sealed for the pressure to occure if air is in system" no" presssure.
If lift pump is working(can you hear it?) Is it exiting fuel filter and arriving at inlet of high presure pump at correct pressure. (if not replace filter Use Genuine part. If still no good lift pump or power and earth suspect check. Any engine check lights on? if so use a code reader.(im assuming no light as you haven't mentioned it). If all is good to high pressure pump then you are looking from pump onward. Is this an issue that has just occured or have you purchased vehicle in this condition. Any unusal noises The high pressure pump is driven by camshaft is it actually turning the pump I have come across fractured cams or drives. if ok advise holden to check from here on there may be an electrical issue or injection issue possibly allowing air in system or shutting the pump down. You can check the whole sytem for visible leaks and vacuume connections. good luck.

1999 dodge ram diesel fuel lift pump keeps running even with ignition off and key out. my truck will run fine with out it hooked up, but I heard it could cause injector pump to burn up. ca


It's unlikely to damage the injector pump but the pump will eventually burn itself out. The pump SHOULD turn off when it attains full pressure. If it does not do so, check for proper pressure at the fuel pressure regulator. If pressure is OK at the output but high at the input, replace the pump. If pressure is high on both sides, replace the fuel pressure regulator.

This may be as high as 23,200 psi.(1600 bar). Use extreme caution when inspecting for high pressure fuel leaks. Fuel under this amount of pressure can penetrate skin causing personal injury or death. Inspect for high pressure fuel leaks with a sheet of cardboard. Wear safety goggles and adequate protective clothing when servicing fuel system.

  20. Disconnect fuel supply and return lines at high pressure injection pump.
  21. Remove alternator to intake manifold bracket.
21 Remove high pressure injection pump retaining nuts and remove pump.

Care must be taken not to bend the brake vacuum tube when removing high pressure pump.

I have a 1988 suburban 1500 4x4 5.7 liter v8. I replaced fuel pump and filter, will start and run for about 10 seconds then die and will not restart. Not getting fuel somehow. Injectors were also replaced....


Most likely it is the fuel pressure regulator..also check for spark here's some info for you.. The first thing to do is check for spark.

Disconnect #1 ignition wire at the spark plug.
Install a spark tester into the end of the spark plug boot.
Have an assistant crank the engine over and check for spark at the tester.
Repeat this process at each spark plug.
If any cylinder does not show spark, proceed to secondary component tests.
If ALL secondary components show no spark, test components individually.
If all cylinders test O.K., inspect for fouled spark plugs and clean or replace as necessary.

If spark checks out good, then you could have a fuel delivery problem. I would recommend to start by checking fuel pressure. Fuel injected cars are very fuel pressure sensitive. Fuel pressure is very important and must be within specifications! But if the pressure is low, it does not mean the pump is bad. A plugged fuel filter, a pinched line, and low voltage at the pump can contribute to low fuel pressure. All three must be check before replacing the pump! You can get a fuel pressure gage at a local auto parts store for cheap.

Fuel pressure testing is frequently overlooked but it is one of the common causes of poor performance. The test procedure must include testing that will insure normal
fuel pressure under all operating conditions.

1. Fuel demands are low at idle.

2. Wide open throttle at high engine revs uses the most fuel.

3. Port injection fuel pressure must be reduced when manifold vacuum is high. Vacuum pulls fuel out of the injector causing it to deliver too much fuel if the pressure remains high. What would cause a combination of P0304 and P2293 OBD codes on a 2007 Passat 2.0T?


P0204 is miss fire detected on #4 cylinder.

Technical Background
Excessive wear of intake camshaft lobe that drives the high pressure fuel pump. The wear limits maximum pump piston lift, causing fuel rail pressure fluctuations.
The wear on the camshaft lobe can also lead to wear on the base of the high pressure fuel pump cam follower.
Production Solution
Increase surface hardening of camshaft lobe for the high pressure fuel pump
Improved intake camshafts have Part No. 06F109101B.
Service

• Remove the high pressure fuel pump and visually inspect:
1. Base surface of the cam follower -6- in contact with the camshaft lobe.
2. Tip of the high pressure fuel pump plunger.
3. High pressure fuel pump camshaft lobe.

If the base of the cam shaft follower looks like -C- or -D-, no excessive wear is present.
Cam follower and camshaft should not be replaced.
If the cam follower base surface is excessively worn so that its surface is concave -B- or missing -A-, inspect the intake cam shaft lobe for wear.

If the high pressure fuel pump camshaft lobe shows excessive wear, replace the intake camshaft with Part No. 06F109101B and the cam follower with Part No. 06D109309C, see Group 15 Engine - Cylinder head, Valvetrain in ElsaWeb.

Inspect the tip of the high pressure fuel pump plunger for excessive wear.
If excessive wear is found the high pressure pump must also be replaced, see Group 20 Fuel supply in ElsaWeb.
Tip:
High pressure fuel pump plunger damage is only possible if the cam follower base has a hole in it and the plunger tip has come in direct contact with the camshaft lobe.
If no excessive wear can be found in the high pressure fuel pump cam follower or intake camshaft lobe, or if the damage is found in camshafts with part number 06F 109 101 B, create a Technical Assistance Contact Ticket under the Concern Type Engine and Engine Electronics in ElsaWeb.
Attach the complete diagnostic log to the contact, and call the VW Technical Assistance Center for further assistance.

94 subaru legacy wagon will start and run for a few seconds if the fuel pump is disconnected but won't start at all when reconneced.


Check for a very dirty air filter or an obstruction in the air intake. (Engine not getting enough air so mixture is too rich.) Check for fuel pressure to be correct and not too high with the pump running. If it is too high, check that the fuel pressure regulator is working.

Try this: connect the fuel pump but disconnect the cold start fuel injector. If you can get it to start and run, then fuel pressure being too high is most likely. When the cold start injector turns on, the extra pressure is causing more fuel to flow through the injector than normal and the engine floods out.

I have a 1988 camper it's on a Ford F350 chasse with a 460 ci. engine. Has one gas tank with a low pressure pump in it and a high pressure pump on the frame rail. The truck runs for an hour and dies. at...


The catalytic converter may be fried. Very poor design of the restricted exaust ports.
And the fuel pumps are junk straight from the box. Around 94 Ford had to change the design of the fuel pumps.
I am not a mechanic but had the same issues.
I removed the catalytic converter and get the inspection done by a freind.
Your alternative is to change the entire exaust system to say a "Banks". Which is about $3000 for the paRTS.

What is i low fuel pressure


The fuel pump generates as high pressure for the fuel to be injected into the cylinder as a high pressure is important for the best efficiency . So a low fuel pressure will not have the engine efficient, can cause faults and misperformance.
The fule pump must be calibrated at an authorised centre to confirm the parameters/standards or be reset.

glow plug relay should be on the front are rear of intake.you have a mechanical low pressure pump on the passenger side low near the front. or a electric low pressure pump on the starter side. your truck should have the low pressure electric pump. to check fuel pressure you disconnect the out let line to do a out put test.on the electric low pressure pump.put out let line in a container.crank engine for 20 to 30 sec.you should have a good flow of fuel no dribbles.if dribble replace low pressure electric pump.the mechanical low pressure pump out put test you disconnect fuel line from the fuel filter inlet line.disconnect wire at fuel injection pump electric shut off solenoid .place the fuel line in a container. crank engine for 20 sec. fuel flow looks good.pump is good .if dribbles.replace mechanical low pressure pump.to check glow plug relay you need a .diesel repair ford manual to show you where to put a test light to check the relay.WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN WORKING ON DIESEL ENGINES.DONT DISCONNECT THE INJECTION PUMP LINES WHILE ENGINES IS RUNNING.THE FUEL PRESSURE IS SO HIGH SPRAY IN YOUR EYE CAN CAUSE BLINDNESS.GET IN SKIN OR SORE CAUSE BLOOD POISON.
