350 engine should be about 160hp and about 255ft lbs@2400rpm Hp numbers are actually higher than what is advertised but vary somewhat because of differences in measuring methods (at flywheel at trans tailshaft, at rear wheels) values also change depending upon compression ratio and if carbureted 4bbl or 2bbl or if injected (throttle body) Numbers are only related to a "fresh" engine under lab conditions. Performance regarding the work you will ask the vehicle to do depends largely upon gearing more than engine displacement unless you are comparing a four cyl engine to a big block or diesel. Most important is how well the vehicle was maintained and how well it is running. (never fall for "it just need a tune-up"...that can sometimes mean there is something wrong and we cant' figure it out)
I don't have diesel numbers but generally diesels have much more lower end torque, as per design. I know what you asked has not been fully answered here. In reality you should not try to compare the two. Likely both will do the job quite well. Diesels tend to go longer in the life dept, smallblock chevy engines are likely the most "perfect" V8 engine ever designed, having only one design flaw stemming from the fact that the valves should have been moved outboard a bit in 1957 when a larger cam was used when the displacement changed from 265 to the original 283 (same placement carried on to present)
Hope this helped and didn't confuse you more!!!

I want a 1983 chevy Suburban repair manual 6.2 L Diesel -- All it says is Model 10 -- 1 ton

You can get the original GM dealer service manual from faxonautoliterature.com. It will have everything includung wiring diagrams in it. I've used them before and had excellent service.
If you are just looking for some help with your engine then Haynes has a Diesel Engine Repair Manual, part #10330 that is excellent for the 6.2 diesel. It's about $20 and covers the 6.2 and the 6.5. It includes a lot of tips that aren't in the GM book, especially up grades to some systems.
Hope this helps.

I'm trying to find out the horse power of my chevy small block engine 1 GM 14010207

Look at the vin # from outside the car through the windshield on the bottom of the drivers side. The 8th digit in the vin # is the engine code. You should be able to look it up on the internet. I want to say 175hp but i'm not certain. It is usually a letter. For example a small block 350 for certain years is the letter M and I believe small block 305 is P.
