From your description of your problem it seems like your starter may be at fault. It may have a dead spot and the click you are hearing may be the starter solenoid engaging but not power is getting to the actual starter motor. As for the brake lights your brake light switch may have failed.
The security system has disabled the starter. I had this happen on an earlier model Honda Civic. As a solution, we bypassed the starter and added a push-button switch on the inside of the car. So you'd turn the key to start, hit the button, and it started. We took a bit and drilled a hole in the lower dash for the button to fit, some place easily reach by the driver. From the switch we ran 2 wires, one to the ignotion wire, that we pulled off the starter, and the other to the + side of the battery.
This was the cheapest route. I had attempted to remove the security system, but to no avail.
If you're looking for a professional fix...I'm sorry I don't really have one.
Check first your battery! The battery terminal might be LOOSE and needs tightening!
Put some grease after u cleaned the TERMINAL POLE, corrosion and oxidation occurs when it wasn't maintained!
Try to check that first and let us know wut happened after that
Taaah!!
check the fuse under the fuse box in the engine compartment. it's the main fuse for all components on the care. should be able to locate it under that fuse box.
