My friend has a 2004 Dodge Stratus and it will not start. Instead, there is an annoying clicking or tapping noise when the key is turned. Is that a problem with the alternator or battery?

Sound as if battery is dead. Battery will need to be checked and recharged. If battery checks out as good, might want to remove alternator to have it checked to be sure that the alternator is also good.

Sounds as though you have a weak battery, try jumpstarting the vehicle.

2002 dodge stratus 2.7does not start no click noise was working.new batt

Possible starter motor problem. Try tapping the starter motor with something as you turn the key to the crank position. If it starts or makes any noises, suspect a starter. If no help, you will have to check for start power directly at the starter solenoid and diagnose from there

Locked key ignition

had the same problem with a 99 dodge van. tow truck driver put the key into the ignition and tapped it a couple of times while turning the key to freed it up and start the engine. works as long as you leave the key in the ignition so i use a second key to lock/unlock the van. hope this works for you. gary

Key won't turn in the ignition

if you tap on the lock cylinder with a small hammer it may jar it enough to get it to turn.....to replace the tumblers you will need to remove the lock cylinder and then disassemble it. each tumbler has a certain number on it and will need replaced with that same number. it is easier to have it dealer or locksmith do it.
