Question about 1994 Toyota Pickup
Turn ignition switch to ACC, then push little button on the bottom of the key switch cylinder barrel. Then pull out the key and the lock will come with it. One queastion, have you tried spraying powdered Graphite lock lube in the lovck cylinder, many tiomes this solves the problem, you can buy it at any hardware store, very cheap.

I've had my keys wear out and not want to open doors or start the truck... since this is your friend's truck this isn't helpful but suggest that they keep one good key and unused to use as a source for future copies.
