They are in the engine head. Just follow the plug wires and they will lead you right to them. A slightly warmer engine will make it little easier to remove the old ones. Make sure there is no debris of any kind on or near plugs when removing or that junk can get into your cylinder. Turn counter clockwise to remove and clockwise to install. Make sure the socket is straight up and down and not crooked or it will crack the plug.

If your expedition is the 5.4 litre triton v8 you won't have spark plug wires to follow because the engines has cop(coil on plug ) ignition system.

I would like to know how to change the spark

FIRST OF ALL YOU HAVE CHANGE SPARK PLUGS WHEN ENGINE IS COOL.IF YOU CHANGE THEM WHILE ENGINE IS HOT YOU COULD DAMAGE THE ALUMINUM HEADS OR CAUSE DISTORTION.TO CHANGE SPARK PLUGS YOU NEED A SPARK PLUG SOCKET.A TORQUE WRENCH.ITS NOT MANDATORY.BUT IT WILL KEEP YOU FROM OVER TIGHTEN SPARK PLUGS.YOU NEED A 3/8 RATCHET AND EXTENSION.YOU ALSO NEED A SPARK PLUG GAP GAUGE.AND SPARK PLUG BOOT PULLER.YOU ALSO NEED SOME ANTI SEIZE COMPOUND.TO PREVENT DAMAGE THREADS WHEN INSTALLING THE SPARK PLUGS.

20 expedition location of spark plugs ?4.6

Plugs are near the top of the cylinder heads facing upwards. They are not fun to change as the passenger's side doesn't have a lot of room to work in.

How to change spark plugs in 2001 expedition 5.4L

It should be no more complicated than any other truck. They are located on either side of the valve cover, which is hard to miss. You can follow the spark plug leads to the plugs. You also locate them beside the fuel injectors - follow the fuel rail.

Pul the plug leads/caps off. Using a standard plug removal tool, unscrew the plugs. Be careful to not let any dirt or debris fall into the hole when the plug is removed. I plug the hole with a clean rag. Use a plug removal tool (instead of a regular socket) as they have rubber padding inside the socket to protect the porcelein plug post from breaking off.

Also, its best to have a fresh set of plugs ready to put in when you remove the old ones as it makes for a quicker job and there's less likelyhood of anything getting into the cylinder while you go to the stroe for new plugs.

Hope this helps.

Changing spark plugs

Changing the spark plugs on a 1997 Ford Expedition 5.4L engine takes patience. Remember to start this project on a cold engine! I started on the passenger side by locating the Coil over iginition coils and cleaned out all the old dirt using some compressed air. Then I had to disconnect the electrical connections to both the Coil over ignition coils and the passenger side fuel injectors. Once you remove the small bolt which holds the ignition coil in place, use your compressed air again to blow out the spark plug hole. After that, you will need a 5/8" swivel spark plug socket and various length extensions to remove the spark plugs. Take your time because there is not much room for your hands. Before installing the new plug, check the gap and use clean engine oil on the new threads. Tighten the new spark plug and reinstall the coil over ignition coil. Reconnect the electrical connection to both the ignition coil and the fuel injector. Continue these steps with all eight spark plugs. You will find the ones on the drivers side are difficult because of the fuel rail gets in your way. Have patience and use swivel extensions to work around the tight spaces. When you are done, you will have saved lots of money! Don't forget to replace your air filter, fuel filter, and pcv valve to complete your tune up.
