Question about 2000 Saturn Ls 4dr Sedan

2 Answers

This has been an ongoing issue for the last 2-3 years now. First the car would all of a sudden not start. We'd wait 10-15 minutes then try again and it would start. It began happening more frequently. We had a new key made thinking the old one was too worn. The problem went away for about 2 years. Recently the car would not start at all. It would turn over, but not start. The fuel pump has been replaced (it was replaced when these issues first started 3 years ago). The security light flashes when trying to turn over. We unhooked the battery for 1 hour and tried restarting, that worked. The next time, it didn't start. Now we're back to starting randomly which makes it pretty unreliable if we're out somewhere and want to turn the car off. This car is only worth $1200, a new computer is going to cost $500 installed. I'm not convinced that a new computer is going to fix this issue and feel that the Passlock system is interfering. I need help with this please!

and............how do I fix that? Is there a way around it? I have seen other references to a Stellar Passlock 2 system. Is this worth a try?

Maybe resetting the theft system. To do this you need to get in the car, turn everything off, turn the key to on, wait about 10mim or so till the light stops flashing, them turn key to off and back to start engine.

There may be something floating around in the fuel tank that blocks the fuel sock. Stopping allows it to move gain so the engine will start again.

start the car and pull off on side of the battery and if the car shuts off your alternator is bad if the battery wont stay charged its the battery .If you have a meter check the voltage to the battery it should be around 14.3 volts .

When driving suddenly the engine cuts out.

I heave the same problem on my Corsa B 1.0 2000, engine cuts out, and whe it happens, I hear one of the relay under the right side of the dash buzzing. After a couple of minutes, starts like nothing happend.
So far I manage to find that the speed sensor is faulty, when I tap him the car stops. I order a brand new one, but I'm not sure that was the issue.
I order also a Opel Tech2 tester from ebay and it has to arrive next week, then I can see the error code.

Motor shuts down when reaching normal operation temp

Sounds like the mass air flow sensor or the air intake temperature sensor. Sometimes just wiping out the throttle body/air intake can make all the difference

97 lumina, 3.1. Starts runs smooth, drive for 30

I just recently have been fighting the same problem with the same make/model/year vehicle. For myself, I would drive off and on through the day and it would run fine. Then suddenly after a start it would run rough and die. I would have to wait 20 to 60 mins before it would start again. I had it checked and fuel pump was only putting out around 19 psi. It should be around 41 psi. Had fuel pump replaced and no more problems. Furthermore, now it runs so much better. It's funny how over time I didn't notice how the performance was slowly degrading. Unfortunaley fuel pumps for this car run around $300.

1996 Oldsmobile Achieva: Security light flashes upon startup

Here is what you do, but only when the SECURITY light flashes - if it is always ON or OFF it's no use.
Turn the key in the ignition to ON.
Wait for exactly 10 minutes ( SECURITY light will flash for 10 minutes and then stay on SOLID)
Turn the key to OFF
Wait 5 seconds.
Turn the key in the ignition to ON.
Wait for exactly 10 minutes.
Turn the key to OFF
Wait 5 seconds.
Turn the key in the ignition to ON.
Wait for exactly 10 minutes.
Turn the ignition OFF.

Start the car normally.
It has relearnt the keycode and you're good to go.
NOTICE - it takes 30 minutes to relearn, that's THREE cycles of ON - 10 minutes - OFF.

Good luck.

All lights Flashing On

A low voltage issue will cause all these symptoms. You should have the alternator checked as well as the battery. Good Luck
