Question about 2005 Honda Odyssey

1 Answer

CEL came on a couple of days ago. Dianostic showed a code for knock sensor. Would it be the sensor or an actual knock in the engine? I switched to higher octane gas, but haven't reset the light yet to see if that worked.

It is poss the sensor did detect a knock, u would never hear it if it did, if you are using the correct grade of name brand fuel I suggest you reset and see if it comes back, if it des you either have a wiring issue or a defective sensor, knock sensors have a very low failure rate so really doubt it is bad.

Toyota Vitz 2007, 1.0 L, check engine light comes on at 100 km/h and goes off after turning off engine but comes back again at high acceleration like 100 km/h. change oxygen sensor as well.

That code is actually due to the fuel pressure being too low and causing a lean condition that the oxygen sensor picks up. It is common in that vehicle. Check the fuel pump pressure, filters etc.

What would cause a p0236 code to continually go off even after knock sensor has been replaced twice?

Is there a knock in the engine? If the motor rattles, the knock sensor will think its pinging and retard the timing to compensate. This will set the code.

How will I know if the knock sensor is connected

If your check engine light is not on, the sensor is definitely connected (or the check engine light bulb is blown!) have someone pull codes on the car if the CEL is on and see if a knock sensor code is present

P0123, p0155, p0306

Well it really doesn't matter much. I would probably clear the codes and see which ones come back first.
Code 123 is for the throttle position sensor signal being out of range. Could be the sensor or a wiring problem.
Code 155 is for a problem with the heater circuit going to O2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1. Thats on the side with cylinder two if you have a V6 engine. Could be the sensor but its usually the lack of power for the heater.
Code 306 is for loss of power from cylinder 6 which could be mechanical, fuel, or spark related.
The three codes are not connected to each other. And trouble codes are not a statement to replace parts, only what to test.

The knock sensor is used to detect engine vibrations caused by preignition or detonation and provides information to the ECM, which then retards the timing to eliminate detonation. Here's a link on how to test and replace. Here's the sensor.

The first problem about the gauges and lack of power is most likely the ignition switch.
On the 5.3 there is actually 2 knock sensors on this engine and they reside under the intake plenum on the engine, so you have to remove the intake on the engine to get at them. If your truck actually does have a serviceable fuel filter it will be on the frame somewhere under the drivers door area. if you don't see it then it is internal in the fuel tank and is part of the fuel pump assy and does not require replacement unless the pump goes bad.

Does the check engine light come on, on the dashboard, when you turn on the ignition, before cranking? If the check engine light does not light up on the dash, then your ecu is bad and in need of repair. That would also explain why it's not giving any diagnostic codes.

What should I check on a 97 Subaru Outback that shows a knock sensor code?

the knock sensor itself can be faulty if there is a code showing for it.

CEL lights only come on if a sensor fails its diagnostic, it is nothing to do with the particular sensors readings, but telling you the sensor itself is bad.

The knock sensor is a little microphone attached directly to the cylinder block side wall.

this may be a defective fuel injector or a defective PCM (powertrain control module).
