try cleaning the cogs that the belt runs around some times the belt puts a layer of rubber on them when the belt slips which makes the new belt slip if not could be a bearing in the pullys the belt runs around

Need to replace a timming belt for 1990 ford tarus

1990 Taurus doesn't have a timing belt, just timing chains which never need to be replaced.

2001 ford super duty 250- dash lights go dim whan I turn on headlights.

This may be an indication of a poor battery connection, a slipping (worn or cracked) serpentine drive belt, or a bad battery.

  1. Corrosion around the battery cables prevents the alternator from replenishing full power back to the battery
  2. A bad drive belt tends to slip around the alternator and like in #1, doesn't replenish full power back to the battery
  3. A bad battery with a dead cell won't accept a full charge.
Not mentioned above and less likely is a bad alternator. If you don't have a bad battery connection or a worn drive belt, I'd recommend having the electrical system checked out (most chain auto parts stores will do a free check).

Hello, not sure what happen but, on my way to work today my battery light came on and then went off right when I got to work. When I left work later that evening, not only was my battery light still on,...

you may want to check your crankshaft pully to make sure it does not slip. we were having the same problem with our 2004 kia and the crankshaft pully had lost its pins. so it was just spinning on the crankshaft bolt. its the center pully, the one comeing driectly out of the motor. we found this by opening the hood and turning on the a/c. the drag from the belts turning the a/c on. made the belts squeel slightly and you will see the pully slip under the load of turning on the a/c this takes 2 people. you want to start the car with the hood up a/c off and while the second person watches the center belts and pully have the driver turn on the a/c if the belts squeel or the center pully slipps thats your problem.. also if you have any problem with power steering, lights going out or dimming, battery going low or any function light coming on inside. thats an indicator of this also.. i hope this helps you...

1990 Space Cab: I get a shrieking too-tight fan belt squeal on start up and if while driving I press the accelerator hard. Any ideas? chuck Watkins

Fan belt does not squeel because it is too tight. It is caused by slipping. It is either too loose or worn out or both.

My 2001 Ford Focus was low on coolant which caused the multifunction warning light to illuminate. Coolant was added, but now the power supply to the engine is low and the charging system indicator is on. ...

Most "power supply to the engine is low and the charging system indicator is on" is an indication that your Alternator is failing. However it could also be a sign that the Belt is worn, stretched out or is slipping. Check you belt first to determine if you need a new belt.
If the Belt(s) are fine:
One way to determine if the Alternator is bad is start the vehicle and while the engine is running, remove the Negative Cable from the Battery. If the Engine dies, it is a bad alternator, and should be replaced.
The Battery starts the vehicle and run's other nominal operations. The Alternator actually runs the engine,
providing the fire/spark to it. If the Alternator is starting to fail, it will draw power from the Battery.
Let me know if this helped, or if you have any additional information, problems, or questions. Feel free to contact me at FixYa.com!
p.s. When you added the Radiator Fluid, did any spill onto the Belts or onto the Alternator? Radiator Fluid onto the Belt could have caused it to slip, causing these illuminations of the warning lights. It could also kill an alternator pretty quickly.

Squeeling when the car starts.

Your belts need replaced. Its the belt slipping that causes the squeel. Sometimes the idle pulley or belt tensioner will make the same noise if wore.

460 motorhome fan belt slipping

Check and see if the pulleys are shiny looking, also are the batteries low on charge, if you have more than one battery the load on the alt is huge, add in a low or bad set of batteries and then the belt can deliver enough power to spin the alternator, and it slips. Worked on motorhomes for year's, saw this allot.
