Your variable valve timing solenoid could have a bit of dirt in it. They are very sensitive to this. This too will cause your problem.

Sounds to me that when you put in the timing belt you might not had it lined up and in time .....It could be 180 out and still run but wont have the power at higher rpms and that what could be throwing off the cam sensor ...Hope this helps

I would check that there is no pinched wiring to the sensor first. if thats fine pull the sensor out and make sure inside where it goes it free of obstructions. if all that checks out you may have timed the engine wrong.

Since you are getting that code from ur computer now after you made the installation it looks like the belt was not installed in the right way, recheck your work with a workshop manual to see if you did something wrong
hope this helps

Long crank time, gives the same code 3 times

p0340 is a camshaft sensor circuit malfunction, and that will effectively cause long crank times before starting and also can cause rough idles, sputtering, etc.. Could be the sensor itself being faulty, could be the ring gear giving the sensor it's position that is dirty/damaged/bent, could be the connectors/prongs being loose or dirty, could be frayed or corroded wiring, or could be a faulty PCM, although it's alot rarer for a PCM to go bad. So start by checking the wires and connectors and the sensor gear, as this will be the only thing not costing money to do. If all else seems good, change the camshaft sensor if you can find one at a decent price.

P0340 FORD - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1Possible causes- Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor
- Camshaft Position Sensor harness is open or shorted
- Camshaft Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty starter motor
- Starting system circuit
- Dead (Weak) battery
P0340 FORD Description The Camshaft Position Sensor is an electronic device used in an engine to record the rate at which the camshaft is spinning. This information is used by the Engine Control Module(ECM) to control ignition and fuel injection. The camshaft position sensor senses the retraction of camshaft (intake) to identify a particular cylinder. The camshaft position sensor senses the piston position. The sensor system consists of a rotating part, typically a disc, as well as a static part, the actual sensor.

When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the teeth cause the gap with the sensor to change. The changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change. The change in the magnetic field cause the voltage from the sensor to change.

When the crankshaft position sensor (POS) system becomes inoperative, the camshaft position sensor provides various controls of engine parts instead, utilizing timing of cylinder identification signals.

2000 Ford Escort zx2 runs rough and stalls in reverse

The Ford Escort ZX2, the 2.0 liter is a interference engine,The valve and the piston kissed each other as they met with a broken timing belt,Just to let you know a cam position sensor does not create rough idle, it can stall the engine at a stop sign, but the solution is a valve job, and who ever put the timing belt on after the job should have done a cylinder effeciency test.

I have a 2000 ford escort zx2 that has a code of po340, i wanted to know what needs to fixed and a good repair shop in my area.

It needs a timing belt. It has either stretched or jumped time. You can try replacing the cam sensor first, but despite the description, it usually means it is out of time. You'll want to make sure the cam sensor is plugged in (on the front right of the engine head) and that the VCT solenoid is plugged in (sticks out of the top left of the valve cover) and have it scanned again to see if you got any new codes like P138x.

P0340 code. I Changed cam sensor and checked wiring. what else could be wrong? Jeep cherokee, 6 cil

A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

•a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
•the camshaft position sensor may have failed
•the PCM may have failed
•there exists an open circuit
•the crankshaft position sensor may have failed

With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:

•Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
•Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
•Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
•Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
•Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
•Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
•Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

I got a camshaft position sensor malfunction code P0340 from my code reader and needs to know how to repair the problem for a 2000 Ford Focus SE. My car will not crank.

it sounds like you have bigger problems if your car does not crank(turn over) then your timing belt could have broken and the one piston could be hitting a valve causing it to be locked up.normally when any sensor is bad car engine still cranks it just doesn't start.
