Question about 2002 Isuzu Trooper

3 Answers

My car batteries are not charging in my trooper, if i charge the batteries and run the car its fine, till they go flat, I have discovered the engine belts are loose but unsure if it has 2 belts or 3 belts I can see 2 but looks as though there should be 3.

I would be surprised if it uses 3 belts, do you have a volt meter ,or a friend with one ,all you need to do is start the vehicle up and put the voltmeter to the battery negative to negative and positive to positive on about the 20 volt scale if everything is working correctly it should read between 13.5 and 14 volts. if it is not doing that ,i would be confident in saying that your alternator is not working and you need the assistence of an auto electrician , it may be in the regulator but idoubt it "youdoit"

There can be more than 3 bets but the one u need to worry about is the one on the alternator, check that, if the belt is loose it could be ur solution just to make it tight again.
on that model there should be
alternator belt
steering pump belt
air condition belt
and finnally and inside the engine the distribuition belt
hope this helps

Its two for the alternator and one for the aircon - if you have it .

Move the alt out to tighten the two smaller ones .

No, you should be asking what is my battery voltage. As taken from a voltmeter, a multi-meter, or a digital volt-ohm meter. You really need to know the battery's state of charge before proceeding to question the starter or solenoid. You could have a loose connection somewhere that is not allowing the alternator to re-charge the battery when the engine is running. That sounds to me more likely what the problem is.
When properly charged, your 3 year old battery should show a minimum of 12.5 volts, some people say it must be 12.6 volts, but that is how defined the process is. And that is why you should invest in a cheap voltmeter, a DVOM is best for automotive work, considering all the small current electronics on modern cars. Just see what your battery voltage is-that is the first step in diagnosing. Did you even think of seeing how bright the headlights were? Or watching them when trying to start the engine? If they get real dim or go out altogether, your battery is too flat!
You can easily check your charging system once the engine is running. Put the voltmeter back on the battery when engine is running, and the voltage should now be over 13 volts, 13.5 volts is very good. Most systems run in the 13.5 to 14.5 volts range. But anything over 13 volts means the alternator is doing it's job.

1998 isuzu trooper need wiring diagram for charging system with a3.5 li5ter motor

1998 trooper new alternator and still not charging and alternator bench tested good,
Check main 80 amp fuse in engine compartment and also check fuses in inside fuse box, there two in that one. first is engine fuse 15amp and the 10amp gauge fuse,

Here is the wiring diagram for the charging system as you asked for , also check connections, follow battery wire off the back of alternator make sure connections are good , that wire runs to engine fuse box and that is one fuse that i said to check it is 80amp, hope this is helpful good day9_30_2012_10_15_05_pm.gif

Have a 1997 Isuzu Trooper. The battery will not charge, has new alternator on it. Any ideas??

Check the large cable on the alternator to make sure it has 12 volts on it with the engine not running,if it does not, then this is the problem, running a new one to the positive side of the battery to this terminal on the alternator will solve the problem.

ALTERNATOR REPLACED WORKING OK NOW TIMING BELT PETROL AND BATTERY WARNING LIGHTS ON WHEN ENGINE RUNNING AND A/CON NOT WORKING

If your battery warning light is on, then your alternator is NOT working okay. Rather, maybe the alternator DOES work, but the battery light can also come on if your battery won't charge.

Put a voltmeter to the battery terminals when the engine is running and rev the engine to a medium idle. Battery charging, (engine running) it should be about 13.5-14.5 volts. Engine off fully charged battery voltage should be 12.6 volts.

Quick test-engine running, disconnect the positive battery terminal from the battery- if the engine dies, there is still an alternator problem.

Hope this helps.

Have a 2.6 with the same issues. only mine will almost always start after disconnecting the fuel line and reconnecting it. I have replaced the fuel pump, inline filter and pressure regulator. My car dog friends are telling me it's the injectors.
