Question about 2000 Ford Taurus

My '99 Taurus pulls to one side and the front left tire is wearing really fast while the others still look new. how can i realign it myself?

You cannot. get the front end checked and professionally aligned.

There are a number of things that could cause a front end vibration, and while it may seem to be coming from the left front, it may not necessarily be so. That said, however, lets list them from the left front first.

1. I am assuming this is a 2WD vehicle, as 20 inch rims on a 4x4 are odd to say the least. Therefore, it is possible that the front bearings were not adjusted properly when installing the new front rotor. Too loose or too tight could bring on the issue. Jack the left front corner up and try to shake the wheel side-to-side and up-and-down. If it only shakes side-to-side, it could be the outer tie rod end. If it only shakes up and down, check the upper and lower ball joints. If ot goes both ways, it's probably the bearings. Chances are if you felt the vibration, readjustment won't be enough. You'll probably have to have the bearings replaced.

2. Be sure that the wheel is fastened properly to the hub. If it has gotten wedged or skewed, it could cause issues (not likely).

3. Check the idler arm for excessive wear. When this wears out, the tires will constantly track in (or out) depending on alignment, then "jump" back to straight, causing a shake in the steering.

I have a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis with alignment problems causing tire wear. I had it realigned in the fall last year 2011 and months ago it's been steering to the left again... Just had it real


In the UK we would say 'have the car tracked' .. the wheel alignment checked and adjusted, which is a relatively straightforward and easy job.

However, be aware that there are other causes of tyre wear which isn't rectified by having the wheels aligned.

A bent or damaged steering arm can cause tyre wear. I once owned an old Mercedes that quickly wore one front tyre. Despite having the wheels tracked - aligned - three times, the tyre still wore. It wasn't until I looked under the car myself and found a damaged steering arm ...

A worn ball joint or worn/soft rubber bush can cause tyre wear. Having the wheels aligned cures nothing without first identifying the fault. I own a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee which, I am aware, has worn rubber bushes in the front steering/suspension set up. The front tyres wear badly, caused by the worn bushes. The tyres need replacing soon anyway, but I'll wait to get the tracking-alignment- done until after I've replaced the rubber bushes/tyres.

You've had wheel alignment done a couple of times and the problem of worn tyres is still there. It's not the wheel alignment at fault .. there's some other reason such as worn ball joint/rubber bushes or maybe impact damage to a steering arm.

The best option is to get a workshop to put the car up on a hoist for inspection. Tell them that wheel alignment ISN'T the cause of your uneven tyre wear. Any half-decent workshop should be able to find the cause within a few minutes.

A car which has suffered severe side impact - and has been repaired - can have a twisted/misaligned body. This too can cause uneven tyre wear

Nick, I did have a rod kit put in my 2008 Chev. Impala. The service guy just looked at it and said that was the problem. Wear on the inside of the tires.


When ever front end work is done, front end needs to be realign, the wear your getting is call toe wear, mean tire's are pointing out, and will wear tire's on inside edge, have it realign and that will take care of your tire wear problem.

My 2008 Mazda cx 7 keeps pulling to the right even immediately after a 4 wheel alignment. Could something else be causing this?


A problem that occurs is that people get a wheel alignment, bu the tyres have been wearing the same way, so they end up pulling to one side...this will get better over time BUT if you want an immediate fix, her's a tip, swap the two FRONT tyres over, and you will find that the car will run straight again....so it is a result of previous tyre wear that causes this, but shhhhhhh...dont tell anybody

Been there. Here's your options:

1. One of the tires has developed a bulge. If the vibration builds up then it may be this cause. It happens.

2. A wheel is out of balance (a counter weight they attach to your rim has fallen off). Have your tires balanced (all of them) - and rotate them while you're at it. If you have over 60,000 miles on the Vue you may need new shock absorbers too. Have them check for that.

3. The front wheels are out of alignment - you can tell by letting go of the steering wheel. If it pulls either right or left you got a problem. Get this fixed soon since it really wears out your tires fast.

Have 99 saturn SL2. car pulls left upon hard braking. replaced right front caliper which I thought was bad but didn't solve the problem. upon loosening of brake hose to right caliper, with a light brake...


Assuming that the Tires for both Left and Right are:
1. Equal Sizes.
2. Both Properly Inflated - this is a common problem.
3. Have equal wear on them. Example: If the Left Tire is balding on the outside and the Right Tire is balding on the inside, this too is definite sign of an aligment issue; and will cause unequal braking.
Pulling left (or right) during a hard brake might actual mean your Wheel Alignment is way off. When you get one, get a 4-wheel and not just a 2-wheel alignment.
Also: you thought the right thing, but the Left Caliper or Left Brake Hose might also be bad (sticking) causing the left side to brake "harder" then the right side.
You can also Bleed the entire System (all four wheels) starting at the Right Rear, then Left Rear, then Front Right, followed by the Left Front.

If you make a hard right or left hand turn (with steering wheel turned until it stops) you'll hear and feel a pop sensation.When you drive over potholes you'll feel a slight pull to one side.If it is one of the upper balljoints,you can grab the tire with both hands near the top(11 and 1 o'clock) and pull the wheel back and forth.You will feel looseness if the upper balljoint is bad.

Mechanic says the front inner tie rods need replacement


No the front tie rods shouldnt wear out that quickly, i still have the originals on my 86 truck! i think that the mechanic must of installed them incorecttyl or "rigged" them i.e. fix it the cheap way
