Walter; Is there a boost gauge in the dash? The turbo is exhaust driven. In reality, either it works or it doesn't. You can cjeck it by taking the ducting off the intake side and ckg that the yurbine is turning. Keep your fingers out of it and any loose objects away from it. Good Luck Oh, Unless you truly understand and have the tools, a turbo should be service or repaired at a qualified shop.

Thank you Walter. Let me explain the Turbo charger and the boost gauge. As I said, the turbo is exhaust driven. The exhaust tyrbon drives the intake turbin and they work in a perpetual manner. The boost is how much pressure the turbo is putting into the engine. The higher the boost the more air there is being packed into the cylinders to maximize the the combustion efficiency, which is called volumetric efficiency. Diesel engines have no spark plugs and rely on the heat generated by the compressed air to ignite the injected fuel. The hotter the air, the more thorought the burning of the fuel. The boost gauge is handy to have so you can see how much boost you are getting from the turbo and a pyrometer on the exhaust side of the turbo tells you how hot your exhaust is. In a larrge diesel engine, the driver constantly monitors the pyrometer temp because there is a limit to exhaust temp when pulling hard and heavy. Too much boost causes higher exhaust temps and too cool an exhaust indicates poor turbo effect. On a passenger vehicle the boost is immediately put to the ground where tthe weight of a semi absorbs alot of the power in its task of pulling the load combined. You can feel the turbo more in a passenger vehicle than a semi. As you are cruising, the turbo is steadily feeding air to the engine at a certain rate. When you accelerate you will feel what is called turbo lag and as the turbo catches up with the exhaust you'll feel the turbo kick in as the boost increases due to the speeding up of the intake turbine. If it's in the budget, have a boost gauge and a pyrometer installed. Both are very simple installations and you actually learn what to expect and when to expect it. If you cjoose to have them put in, let me know and I'll tell you how to "calibrate the pyro so you will know the optimum temp you should run at. Good Luck _Ned_

Looking for the value of this car. Looking to sell it. Clean and excellent condition.

According to www.driverside.com,

A 1983 LeBaron with 120,000 miles is worth $2,675 is a "clean" condition. If it has more miles it will be worth more. If it has less miles it will be worth a little more.

Hope this gives you something to go off of.
