Fuel gage not accurate

The only real cause of this is that the fuel level sending unit inside the gas tank is defective. I suggest your move the gas tank from the truck and replace it.

How do you change a fuel pump on a 1996 Ford Explorer XLT?

The pump is located in the gas tank. It is a bit of a procedure, but you can do it. You will have to take the lines loose and the electric connectors and drop the tank to the ground. There is a ring on the top of the tank that turns with a hammer and screwdriver. Take the ring off and lift the pump out. Reverse the procedure to put it all back together.

How to remove the fuel pump from a ford explorer 1996 can not get fuel pump off of gas tank

Removing the fuel pump requires lowering the fuel tank from the vehicle, the fuel lines require special tools to remove the lines from the pump without damaging the lines( tool availiable at parts store) then remove the lock ring by turning counter clockwise , then the pump , is held to the bottom of the tank by a clip on each side of the pump once depressed the pump will come out.
