Question about 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

1 Answer

I have a '99 Solara and want to change the light bulbs that illuminate the three control knobs for heater, fan and directional. Does the front console panel snap on and off or are there some hidden screws? I did find two screws behind two knobs. I have replaced the bulbs behind the main instrument panel bt this may require more dash removal, is this correct? Steve

Correct. This panel is held on tightly and plastic interior pryors help. One it is started tho it will come off. Some control knobs come off too. The heaterr controller once out then needs to be taken apart carefully to reveal the little bulbs. These are unique bulbs not run of the mill. I don't think they are the same as the dash bulbs.hth

I don't have any running lights and a few dash lights are out also. Where is the fuae panel for these ?

The majority of fuses are down by your left knee, up under the dash. Don't expect to tell good from bad by looking, use a meter. What do you mean by Running lights? The bulbs outside of the headlights? The tail lights (not brake lights)? License plate light? Those are all three on the 10a Tail fuse. But they often blow out, as they flash with the alarm system too.

dash lights are almost all on the same fuse, think it is labelled illumination. The small lights that light up the heater control knobs have been a pain for me, and they are expensive. I put in LED bulbs (triple bright), and they are finally lasting.

Check your fuse, sometimes integrated into other electrical parts of the vehicle. Possibly interior light fuse; cigarette lighter fuse; radio fuse?

Lights on fan knob does not work

the bulbs are made into the a/c control head and are not replaceable. the only way to get them working again is to replace the hole assembly.

The dashboard has lights inside to illuminate the gauges. It could either be LED or bulbs. You need to open the dash to get to the gauge. In most cars, the lights can be replaced from the back of teh gauges.

You need to pull off the knob and get a pair of really thin needle nose pliers in there to extract the bulb.  Match the bulb up at a parts store or the deal and install opposite of removal.

Light bulbs behind the 3 heater/ac controls

to get to these you need to remove the box above by taking out the rectangular screw cover at the back and take out the one screw. gain access to the edge of the box with a flat tool and gently pull the box clear from its clips. now the 2 retaining screws should be visible that hold the controls in place after removing these you need to pull the controls quite firmly from its clips being careful not to damage the wiring to the back. this multiplug has to be released by pressing a retaing clip on the plug itself. once removed the whole unit needs to be separated into 2 halves being careful of static, by removing the screws on the back.once inside there are grey and white bulbs, white for the illumination and grey for the buttons (heated rear window and a/c etc)
