How to take an motor out of an 1976 Minnie

You need to take off the bumper and the door that covers engine access. You'll need a low boy engine hoist. Take out the radiator and push aside the AC condenser and oil cooler. Take off the fan blades from the watre pump pulley. Find a good place to hook up the chain on the hoist. Now go under the engine and remove the access cover on the bell housing. Take out the bolts that hold the torque converter to the flywheel. Now go after the bolts that hold the transmission to the engine. Put a floor jack under the transmission so it wont drop when you jack up the engine with the hoist. After you remove all the electrical wiring from the components on the engine remove the bolts on the motor mounts and raise the engine with the hoist . Pull the engine out while looking for anything that you didn't disconnect. Be sure the transmission doesn't drop when the engine separates from it.

Hpw do I remove 216 motor from my 1950 fleetline

first thing to do is remove the hood, next disconnect one of the battery cables,( I assume you have a chain hoist or a portable hoist)
if you don't have you can rent one for so much a day. make sure you put pulling chains on the motor, you will probably have to take off the valve cover when you get that done remove two head bolts, one at hook the chains through the head bolts, now make the chains are taught front of the motor and one at the back. now on each side of the motor (lower part of motor) you will fine the motor mounts, make sure you don't have the chains to tight just snug, when you have the motor mounts bolt loose, not taken clear out. You will to disconnect the drive shaft from the truck, I think it will a 7/16 or a 1/2 inch bolts you have to remove, another thing , have a pan ready because the transmission oil will leak out the tail of it. ok here we go,find the tranny mounts and remove the bolts(be darn careful under there. something I did not mention before, make sure you remove the radiator and of course all the wires and fuel lines oil lines, etc.I hoped I helped have a happy thanksgiving.

My motor mounts and trans mounts rubbers are soft, are they difficult or expensive to replace?

No, if you have an engine hoist they are very easy to change (1 nut and two bolts per engine mount, two bolts for the transmission mount). The trans mount rubber can be changed with just a floor jack.

I am trying to replace the starter in my 86 nissan stanza but cant see it

NISSAN STANZA WAGON - Manual Transmission

Q. Where is the starter on a 1986 nissan stanza station wagon and how do you get to it ?

Due to limited access to the starter, it is recommended that the transaxle be removed when servicing the starter.

1. Cold vehicle.

Remove 2 mounting bracket bolts, 10 & 12 mm (Figure 1).

Remove top starter motor bolt 14 mm with universal & long extensions.

Raise vehicle on hoist.

Remove front splash pans 10 mm.

Automatic transmission: Drain 2 qts out.

Remove rt-ft wheel 21 mm., & tie rod (Figure 3), axle cap, cotter pin, adj-nut & rubber washer.

Remove ball joint nuts 17 mm., left lower control arm 19mm. & swaybar bracket 14 mm. (Fig 2).

Remove axle nut 36mm (Figure 4), the front tube, catalytic converter heat insulators 10mm, ctr ex-tube 17 mm., and front tube from exhaust system (Figure 5).

Remove long bolt from ft engine mount (next to radiator), 17mm socket (Figure 6, Item A).

Remove tension rod mount 14 mm. Has adj-bracket with rubber insulators (Fig 6, Items B, C).

Remove right side drive shaft bolts that hold shaft to bracket mounted on engine (Fig7) 12mm.

Remove rt-driveshaft.

CAUTION: Transaxle side seals are cut by spline teeth.

Install hoist type transmission jack and wooden block under the transmission/engine. Be certain the transmission is safely balanced on the hoist.

Remove 5 engine crossmember mounts (3 bolts, 2 nuts) 14mm.

Remove nut that attaches crossmember to engine mount.

Loosen stabilizer bar mounts to allow adequate clearance for crossmember to be removed.

Remove following brackets to allow starter assembly to pass through bottom:

tubular support bracket - engine to transaxle

angled support bracket - driveshaft bracket to engine mount

manifold collector stay - (bottom bolts)

Loosen top bolts, remove bracket above driveshaft-holding bracket 14mm.

NOTE: This bracket is slotted to allow it to slide out without completely removing the bolts.

Remove bottom starter motor mounting bolt.

Separate starter assembly from bellhousing, DC all cables/connectors, remove starter motor.

When installing starter, connect cable, install/torque starter bolts.

How do I take a transmission out of a 1980 chevy truck? Can u take out the motor and transmission and transfer case at one time

All of this is usually removed at once the way I know of to allow more room to remove transmission bolts etc. Start by marking all hoses, lines and electricial connectors. then disconnect. Next find all mechanical connections, in example; connections from transmission to shifter and exhaust. Find suitable connections for engine hoist to lift motor. Keep in mind you will need to balance the transmission, but, it will be much lighter than the motor. Find and loosen motor and transmission mounts. Start lifting motor with engine hoist and remove connections to mounts as needed. When you are doing this be sure to stay out of possible pinching areas where you can be pinched or squashed by shifting weight. If you havent done so, I would remove fan and radiator because they can be easily damaged. From there lift the engine out, most likely it will take a little push and shove. Just be careful and you will get the job done!!!

How do I replace the motor mounts on my 96 thunderbird 3.8L?

Put the car on ramps and set e brake.

Use engine hoist to lift engine weight off of car.

Remove mount to engine bolts, remove mount nut.

Lift engine just enough to remove mounts and install new.

Watch exhaust, fuel lines and transmission mount while lifting. They may have to be loosened or moved.

Got a 96 mercury sable with a transmission problem I would like to replace it but dont have any manuals to describe process. Can you help? Thanks Pat

To replace the transmission you will need to:

lift the vehicle
support then engine using a hoist
Support the transmission using a hoist
Unbolt the motor mounts (There are 4 of them)
Lower the engine 8 - 10 inches
Unbolt the transmission
Lower the transmission
Raise up the new transmission and follow the steps in reverse.

Trust me, this is NOT fun :( the top transmission bolt is REALLY hard to get to.
