Yopu should have bought a manual version like we would drive here in europe ,a auto version of this model i have never seen and since this car was made VW sold the automatic box lock stock and barrel to citreon as it was no good and redesigned a new autobox ,this is why iam getting dodgy citreon auto boxes as and when as thankfully not many autos sold here in spain .Dont they teach you how to drive a manual gearbox when you take your driving lessons ??Then you are in control of the vehicle proper and change down through the gears to save wear on the brakes ,and learn how to double the clutch to do this ?'

Automatic? 6 years old. It is probably low on fluid and/or it needs serviced(oil/filter).

I have a 2000 vw beetle turbo manual transmission when i try to drive it it is not going into each gear could it be the clutch?

Does it grind the gears in the transmission. If yes, it could be the clutch/pressure plate. It could be the clutch hydraulic slave cylinder not working. Check all these thing out before purchasing a new clutch/pressure plate. When VW is running does if like the vehicle has no get up an on like maybe the clutch is slipping. GB...stewbison

VW says to use their mineral oil in my 2003 Beetle Turbo S 6 speed manual gear box. Is there another source or better oil that is compatible with this gear box. Evidently the seals and o-rings will not...

Do your really want to use something else that someone tells you is compatible and risk damaging the transmission? Go to a VW dealer and purchase the correct oil and know you are using what you should use. It may cost a few extra dollars but in the end it is the smart thing to do.

I have a 1998 vw beetle i want to know what does the tcm do in my car

TCM stands for Transmission Control Module.
It is a firmware programed device designed to control the shift points of your VW's automatic transmission. It is also responsible for safeguarding the transmission against abuse or other damaging problems from the operator as well as the engine. For instance, if you were driving down the interstate and accidentally bumped the shifter into reverse. the TCM would "see" that you are traveling at a high rate of speed and reverse was selected but nothing would happen. Or, your engine is misfiring, the TCM may only allow certain gears to be used to avoid you stalling in the road.
When a TCM malfunctions your car may not shift into overdrive, or in worse cases may not shift at all causing you to have to shift the transmission manually.
Most late model automatic cars have a TCM.
