Question about GMC Sierra 1500

Not certain which pin is + or -, this is a reverse polarity switch. doing it myself project. window motors installed and work with direct applied power by reversing + & - not certain about hot & neg on switch. The switch is a dorman 49241. I don't want to fry anything.

It will not matter.the window will either go up or down.reverse the wires if it's backwards.

POWER WINDOW GO DOWN BUT NOY UP


Not sure which window you are referring to but the problem without a doubt is in the switch. If a window motor will move the window in one direction but not the other direction then the fault is in the switch circuit. A window motor is a relatively simple circuit. There are only two wires to it. If you apply positive voltage to one wire and ground path to the other wire the motor moves the window up. If you then reverse polarity or switch the positive voltage and ground path wires then the window moves down. It cannot do one direction without the other also working if the motor is ok. Now just need to determine if the problem is in the main switch or the switch and the door in question.

Principles of Operation
The driver power window regulator motor is controlled directly by the master window/door lock/unlock switch (and its integrated "auto down" module). Power is supplied to the power window relay and the master window/door lock/unlock switch, and the passenger power window switch when the SEC/timer module grounds the coil side of the power window relay. The SEC/timer module will ground this relay when the ignition is in the ON position and will remain energized for approximately 15 minutes or until the driver or passenger door is opened.
The driver power window regulator motor is a reversible motor that is operated by applying power and ground to the motor leads to lower the window, and then reversing polarity on those leads to raise the window.
The passenger power window regulator motor is controlled directly by the passenger power window switch and can also be controlled by the master window/door lock/unlock switch. I have a 2005 magnum front passenger window won't come down all other windows work properly I replaced the motor and it rolled up and stayed there won't come down I Cleand the connection nothi


Did you try direct 12vdc power to motor wires ? Reverse polarity should change direction of motor, then you'll know it's switch related or whatever. Did old motor do same? The switch reverses polarity, or is supposed to. If a motor goes in one direction, when wired backward ( reverse polarity) it should go opposite direction. That tells you motor is fine.

The passenger side window on my 2001 F150 will roll down but not up?


Might want to pull the door panel off and test direct to the power window motor, to know which way to go with the diagnoses.

Good directions for removing the door panel are available at Muth ( signal mirror mfgr ). www.kwmuth.com Obviously only follow the directions to the point of getting the door panel off, no need to remove the mirrors. Just enter your truck info, and on the products page are the directions in PDF format.

The power window has a pig tail on it, that goes to the switch ( this is what it looks like remvoed ).

You can apply DC power to the pigtail towards the motor, 1 direction is up reverse polarity and the window should go down.

If the motor works this way, next is to meter the lead from the switch ( the other side of the pigtail ). One direction will have + 12 DC V, then the switch the other should show -12 DC V. If not, it would be time to test both switches.

Post back what you find with the motor test as a comment, and we can go from there.

Drivers window not woring


These driver widow motors are fairly simple. You must have power on one wire and ground the other to make it work. Reverse the polarity and the motor operates in the reverse direction. If you have power on the black wire make sure you have a ground path on the blue and vice versa when you operate the switch in the other direction. There is a possiblity you may have a broke ground wire between the cab and the door causing all the problem.

suspect the switch in the door.the 'polarity' is reversed to turn motor direction for 'up' or'' down' if you have power down,it's not being reversed by the switch.

This may be just a case of inadvertently hitting the window lock out n th driver door window switch by mistake. Check that first. Here's some background on window operation

Inspection:a44e8bd.gif Connect the motor terminals directly to battery voltage (12V) and check that the motor operates smoothly. Next, reverse the polarity and check that the motor operates smoothly in the reverse direction. If the operation is abnormal, replace the motor.
