You will need to have the engine's computer scanned ("have its codes read.") A shop will usually charge 1/2 hour or some nominal set fee for this service. Some parts stores will scan your vehicle for free, the idea being that they can then sell you parts based on the numbers the scanner spits out, but this is fallacious. What the computer says is just shorthand for what it thinks is the problem; the computer has often been fooled by a false reading, and the only way to avoid spending money on parts you don't need is to have the vehicle properly diagnosed.

FWIW, the engine light is like a person saying "ow," only the computer has just one volume setting and no facial expressions or other ways to communicate with the driver. If you shut it up by turning off the light, you are ignoring its pain, which is pain in your wallet. It might be minor or major pain, but by neglecting it, it always gets worse. In addition, clearing the computer's memory does you and your mechanic the disservice of clearing the computer's memory of all the other important things it needs to remember also, like how much air to give your engine so it will idle correctly and how much extra air to give it when you crank the steering wheel in a parking lot so the engine doesn't stall when your foot is off the gas. It also removes the clues that make the diagnostician's job easier and less expensive, so in the interest of not depleting your wallet, leave the light on until you can properly address the problem.

The BATTERY Light coming on is telling the charging system is not charging the battery . Take it to a qualified repair shop . The abs traction lights coming on are due to low voltage .The charging system in your vehicle is computer controlled ,don't know what kind of mechanic you took it to ? Take it to a Chevy dealer

I have a code # po332 on my 2005 chevy silverado, I cleared it and the code reappeared after two weeks. I use 92 octane fuel and do not hear any knocking noises coming from the engine.

This engine is made to run on 87 octane.Sometimes when using a higher octane can cause a check engine light or other driveability problems. If you don`t think it is your knock sensors then get some used ones at the salvage yard and try them. They are under the upper intake plenum.

One year old battery kept dying. It tested bad and

There is some things to check....

(1) Is your alternator charging? take your vehicle to Advanced Autos, Napa or someone like that and have them test your alternator.
(2) Is there something in the vehicle causing excessive drain on the battery when the motor is not running... like is the interior light may be on or something to that affect.
(3) Are you doing enough driving to recharge your battery? short stops and starts is not good for a battery as you may rob more energy from the battery then you are putting back in.
Sounds like something is draining your battery, something must be left on in the vehicle, Advanced Autos or Napa should be able to tell if something is draining your battery when the vehicle is off.

2005 chevy cobalt check engine light on

i went to advance auto and they pulled the check engine light code and they said it was just wet electrical equipment from all the rain we have had and that it would dry out in a couple of drives so they reset the code and told me to come back in if it comes back on.

Intermittent Problem

Not sure if my situation helps or not, but here you go.....

I have a 2006 H3 that has 21,000 miles, last week my husband was driving and lost power, service engine came on, and it kept flashing stabilization problem. Called roadside assistance and had it towed to the dealership. Dealership said it was a dead battery and replaced it. Took the vehicle home and didn't drive for a couple of days. Drove again a couple of days later with no problems. 2 days later tried to start and vehicle had no power could not start at all. Called road side assistance and had it again towed to dealership. Dealership told us the main computer was bad and had to be replaced. We were told it is NOT a common problem, heres hoping we don't have any other issues with the vehicle.
