IF the RPMs go up and your car dont go any where then it must be either you havent put it in gear ,
OR the gear box if Auto Matic ,the pumps or the torque convertor /or the body valve /or the micro filter on the pick up pipe is clogged up and not letting the oil past into the pumps and inturn working the drive bands.
OR if its a Manual g/box then if you select 1st or 2nd gear and it doesent drive then its the clutch driven plate is either worn out/or broken Input shaft, or tail shaft ????????????.
Butif you got the rpms then the engine is fine and you dident need a fuel pump/or converter.. Let me know how you get on.. RON

When my car gets to 2800 to 3000 rpms it looses power drops the rpms the goes back up?


This is most likely a fuel system issue, Change the fuel filter, check the fuel pump pressure and volume. If that does not remedy the problem, it could be air flow problems through the catalytic converter or through the air filter.

you should have your fuel pump pressure tested. your pump may not be holding pressure and loses power while driving also when its parked the fuel may be leaking back into the tank. whoever told you your cats were bad got you for some money.

P0420 code evap system


This is not an evap code. Read on:
P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1

Possible causes- Three way catalyst converter Bank 1
- Exhaust tube
- Intake air leaks
- Fuel injectors may be faulty
- Fuel injector leaks
- Spark plugs may be faulty
- Improper ignition timing
- Engine Control Module (ECM)
Tech notes The most common cause it the three way catalyst converter Bank 1. Changing just the O2 sensor usually don't repair the problem. If the P0420 code is combined with other codes, try fixing the other codes first.

idle air control valve sensor and a tune up would probably help the fuel milage plus a new 02 sensor. catalystic converter may be getting restrictive as well. new fluids may help for milage as well.

The only fault code on 2001 kia sephia is P0422, catylist threshold low.... car ran for 2 weeks fine after new fuel pump, and then just died like first time.... 126 thousnd miles and plenty of fuel, fuel...


P0422 - Catalyst below threshold.

Catalytic converter is clogged or out of medium.

Replace it.


ACTUAL DIAGNOSTIC:

Fault Code Definition
Code P0422 indicates that the Bank 1 Main Catalytic Converter's emissions efficiency has fallen below the minimum allowable limit. This threshold is tracked by a Catalyst Monitoring Oxygen Sensor located on or near the outlet of the Catalytic Converter.

Symptoms

* Check Engine Light will illuminate
* In many cases, no abnormal symptoms may be noticed

Common Problems That Trigger the P0422 Code

* Defective Catalytic Converter
* Engine misfires have damaged the Catalytic Converter
* Internal engine damage resulting in high oil consumption and/or a leaking Head gasket has damaged the Catalytic Converter

Common Misdiagnoses

* Oxygen Sensors are replaced when the real problem is a damaged Catalyst
* Catalyst is replaced when the real problem is internal engine damage, which is producing elevated emissions levels
* Catalyst is replaced when a misfiring engine is the real problem

I have a 1994 Toyota Celica, lately when im in neutral the rpms begin to drop and when i give it gas the car stalls out or it stays under 2 rpms after second gear.


Look and listen for vacuum leak Free,Change air filter $15, change fuel filter$20, replace fuel pump$300.

With motor running and your head under hood listen for hissing sound. Then start replaceing filters first air filter , then fuel filter. Check fuel pump by listening for humming noise at gas cap when you first move key in ignition to on (when the red lights go on). Have someone listen for you at the gas cap.(NO hum need pump)

change the fuel filter first then if that dont fix it then it's the fuel pump breaking down
