It seems to be stuck in 4x4 an bindsup when making acompleat turn

The binding up is normal for 4x4 mode because the parts which normally are bypassed in a 2 wheel mode are locked and rigid in a 4x4 mode. But being stuck in 4x4 mode is not normal.

Some of the units are Vacuum operated, others are electric. The electric units use a single solenoid with a variable length
plunger that gets its signal from the dash knob. When the lightbulb in the dash selector knob burns out; the voltage changes at the solenoid plunger. The plunger then operates differently than how it is set on the knob selector.

For the electric models, you would put a voltmeter on the wire to the 4x4 shift solenoid and have someone move the selector knob to each position and see if the voltage changes.

My 2002 mercury mountaineer message center computer needs to be replaced where can i get one and how do i do it

You can get one out of a Salvage yard and if you can remove it yourself you learn how to do it. You might look at the sister car, an Explorer and see if it is the same. It will give you more choices to get used parts.

Now sometimes these panels work with a backlite bulb and if the bulb is burned out the unit may still work with a new bulb. Contact a Dealer for the lightbulb or see an aftermarket parts store for the lightbulb before spending big money on a dash screen.

There are also places on the Internet which rebuild digital dashes and you might come across a rebuilt unit, or get yours rebuilt, by one of these firms. Do a Web search digital dash repair or digital gauge repair.

Most likely for the dash you will need to remove the faceplate or top of the dash. Again, nothing can replace seeing a disassembled vehicle for yourself. The lightbulb may be able to be changed from the back of the dash and if done this way it will save lots of time.

How to change warning light bulbs, 97 Buick Lesabre Ltd

bulbs do burn out, but the dash will have places that are not always used for all models. i.e. if your car doesn't have ABS that light will not be used. To replace the bulbs you will need to remove the instrument cluster from the dash. its not to hard to do yourself, two phillips screwdrivers and some patience

Dash lights are out

You will need to remove the I/P cluster to access the bulbs, remove the cluster screws and the steering column cover, pull cluster out and reach behind it to disconnect the wiring, the bulb sockets twist in and out, the bulb # is a 94
