What was the original problem

they screwed up the converter installation. sounds like they are not reliable . change shops . and do it again.

When you put your key in ignition, turn to 1st click, turn steering wheel a little in both ways, then try moving shifter.

Lack of Transmission Fluid, Worn linkage, Debris obstruction inside the Shifter housing.

an spray can of Brake cleaner will clean it and use some WD40 afterwards to relube the moving parts that are hidden under the console

The button or the fob will not work with low or no battery power - you need to use the key. There is a keyhole on the boot under the trim or under by the reg. plate lights according to what facelift model you have.

Please see here if you are sure the car has been prewired.
Have you contacted jaguar to be sure the car is wired?
Just because there is a phone symbol on the stereo means nothing.
They all have that.
Go to Jaguars web site and email them with you cars VIN number and ask if the car has been prewired.
they will get back to you in about in 2 days and let you know.

make sure the shifter and the linkage are greased, if the grease got washed off it could be the problem.
