Sounds like the power ballast is failing - that's what takes the 12v signal from the car and amplifies it up to a level sufficient for driving the xenon bulb. Swap the ballasts between the headlights (they're easy to dismount) and see if the flicker goes to the other side (swap only the ballasts - leave the bulbs in their existing positions). If the flicker moves to the other side, the ballast is the problem. If it stays on the left side, the bulb needs replacement.

Search online for the bulbs - the dealer will kill you on pricing (the Audi dealership wants $200 each for my A4's xenon bulbs, but I can find them online for about $30 per pair (or less)). You'd want to order a D2S style bulb for an OEM BMW fitment, in 4300k color temperature.

Sorry. This is problem instead of a solution

My A4 Audi lights on low beam has a shadow and doesn't shine as far as they do on high beam. Took it to mechanic and he said that is the way they are suppose to work which I don't believe that. Should be an adjustment or sensor etc that needs fixed. Anyone with this problem or know anything I would appreciate it. Cath

I have a 2006 civic SI. DRL indicator is on, driver side low and high beam ok. Passenger side low beam ok but DRL and hi beam not working. Any help is appreciated.

When either the high or low beam light is out in either side, DRL (daytime running lights) indicator will come on. When one bulb goes out, that's a clue the opposite bulb will burn out soon, so its best to replace both bulbs. If it was a fuse issue, both left and right side would be out. If driver side is OK but passenger side is not, then its a bulb issue. A 2006 Honda civic takes 9006 (HB4) low beam bulbs and 9005 (HB3) high beam bulbs. Cheapest is online from Walmart site-2-store. After procuring, wear latex, vinyl, or ANY gloves to keep your (corrosive) oil skin from coming in contact with headlight glass bulbs. Your skin oil will chemically react and cause shorter life span on glass bulbs. Instruction don't tell you this, so you handle with your hands, then need to replace bulbs 3 years later instead of 5 years (or more) in the future. With gloves on, pop the hood and look behind each headlight. Turn counter clockwise to unlock headlight bulb holders. Its a quarter to half turn to unlock bulb holder lock. Replace one bulb at a time so you don't confuse high beam from low beam. The wire has a tab you need to lift to pull out & disconnect wire connector. You might need a slim narrow-**** (NOT phillips) screwdriver to lift the tab; or use your house key. Snap the wire connector to the new bulb, then twist into headlight housing to secure bulb holders, then move on to the next bulb to repeat the procedure. Pict below, 9005 high beam is on the left, 9006 low beam is on the right. Handle by grasping the plastic base, not the glass bulbs. The raised potrusion on the bottom center is where the tab locks onto wire connector. Replace all 4 bulbs now, but in the future, its likely the low beam will wear out before the high beam. In the future, replace only the pair, not all 4. The factory installs inferior bulbs that go out sooner, hoping you'll take to dealership and they ******** you with higher parts-n-labor fees. As opposed to Walmart online site-2-store, it would cost you AT LEAST triple in parts & labor from dealership to replace all 4 headlight bulbs :-(

Low beam headlights dont work

Generally that happens when your low beam bulbs burn out. I have had that happen a couple of times, no warning, no indication leading up to it.

I would just replace the bulbs.

I have a warning that indicated left low beam malfunction. How do I resolve this issue.

  • It means the low beam is out on the left side of your vehicle. You will need to replace the bulb and things will be back to normal.
  • Changing the bulb on this vehicle is more troublesome than most vehicles.
  • I think on the 2006 750Li you have to actually loose the bumper a bit to get to the headlight to wiggle loose. Some of the newer BMW's are made so the bumper comes up on the bottom of the headlight assembly just enough to make the bumper have to be loosened to be able to get the headlight assembly out enough to change the bulb.

1986 volvo headlights won't turn on

Most common problem is burned connectors at the relay that switches from high to low beams. I think that in '86, the relay was still inside the car above the driver's left foot. If not there, it is toward the front of the passenger compartment on the driver side, between the front inner fender and the battery. If it clicks when you move the dimmer switch, you can follow the click to find it. If the wires are good, the relay contacts may have failed.
On my '91, I lost the low beams because the headlight circuit in the bulb failure sensor had failed. The bulb failure sensor was an orange can-shaped device directly below the steering column under the dash. The headlight low beam wires were gray, as I recall. A new sensor was $150, so I cut the wires and bypassed it. I figured I could tell if I had a low beam burned out. I did not need a warning light for that. The bulb failure sensor still worked for the tail lights.

As for the horn, inspect the fuse and relay and most common it would be a bad ground wire or worst a bad horn due to corrosion. Horn will be located in the drivers side fender.
Thank you for using fixya.

2002 audi s3 zenon headlight is to low is it possible to adjust it manualy if so how

The adjustment screws/nuts should be located either on the top of the headlamp assembly, behind the headlamp assembly, or near the frame rail by the radiator support.

You will have vertical adjustment screws for each independent beam (separate highs and separate lows, but will be same screw if highs and lows are the same bulb). You may also have additional horizontal adjustment screws as well

Park your car on a level ground 30 feet from a wall and measure the height from the ground to the bulb and mark on a wall (do this for highs beams and low beams if the bulbs are separate, if highs and lows are the same bulb, only do it for the lows)

For Low Beams: If the headlights read VOR, then aim the brightest part or cutoff part just below the mark on the wall. If it says VOL or nothing, aim them 2 inches below the mark on the wall.

For High Beams (if separate from low beams): Aim the headlight directly at the line you marked on the wall.

My son's 2002 BMW 745LI, Zenon type, left side, low beam, headlight out. Swapped bulbs and voltage generator behind bulb, to no avail. Any common problems w/this year/model?

well can be one of the 3 components in the zenon lights system, the first thing to check is the bulb, be careful dont touch it with bare hands , second thing is the Burner electronic Item and the last thing is the Module ( electronic ) your best option is to take it to any bmw authorize delaer , i had the same problems and was the module, the previous owner use to wash the engine and water got inside de module , i replace the module , the burner the bulbs ( 4 of them ) at a 950.00 cost from dealer., is not cheap, dont buy zenon buls at regular autoparts are not BMW factory item the durabily and the light system is made with cheap and low quality materials. if you have a Bimmer keep it right !

HID low beam headlight replacement for 2003 lexus es300

The HID bulbs are very easy to change, and can be bought online for much less than from the dealer. Check sites like xenondepot and Ebay for Phillips D2R (for reflector headlamps) HID bulbs and you can replace them yourself.

2001 Windstar headlight problem

You probably have a frayed wire leading from the main cable to the headlamp.  Look closely where it may be touching the frame and see if you have any wear etc.
