1997 VW BUG , THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS GOING WHACKO. ONE SECOND , IT'S FINE , STARTS , RUNS , THEN AFTER I SHUT IT OFF , IT DOESNT WANT TO START , ACTS LIKE A DEAD BATT. , BUT IT HAS 12V , ALT. TESTED GOOD , BUT I GET A WHOLE LIT-UP CHRISTMAS TREE OF LIGHTS ON THE DASH WHEN IT'S PULLING IT'S ****. THESE NEW-FANGLED BUGS HAVE A HISTORY OF PULLING THIS **** ? COMPUTER , MAYBE ? ALL THE CONNECTIONS ARE GOOD , CLEAN , & FRESHLY TORQUED & DIELECTRIC GREASED . WHERE IS THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE ?

Could this be mechanical. Get an AMP probe with the clamp-on ring for DC currents. Take an AMP reading on the Positive battery cable while starting. If the reading is higher during **** starts then the starter is under to much load, as-in maybe water in a piston or something like that. If the AMP reading is less than normal, then the bendix or solenoid is not making a good connection or bad battery cable. If power is not getting to the starter the current will be low. If the starter is OK and it is an engine problem, then the current will be high, like a locked rotor. Could also be a bad starter bearing when it gets warm. Good Luck

the starter starts to turn? if thats what you mean check the electrical portion of the ignition switch. the key is probably turning a little bit and activating the starter.

Flushed system replaced compressor, expansion valve and drier, evacuated system then let set overnight to check for leaks now replacing oil then I will charge the air.

Electrical. wont re-start unless cold.


You probably have some corrosion on your battery terminals. Make sure they are clean and connected good and tight.

it could be overheating either cooling system or a electronic piece .
are you getting a check engine light ?
