Question about 1984 Volkswagen Scirocco

Hi there , I've got a scirocco 1.8 gti 8v from 1984 that don't start. When I try to start it it runs for a few seconds and then dies and if I open the throtle goes off strait away. Any help thanks.

Its not getting any fule to the carbs or the carb has blocked jets in it,try striping the card bown and cleaning all jets out

Just had the same thing happen. Got it to run on starting fluid, fuel problem. Filled the tank to 3/4 and it started. Turns out the fuel pump has a small rubber line to the pickup in the tank. The rubber line broke and was kind of spraying gas at the pickup. Replaced the short line and she's happy. If this is the problem be sure to use gas line that is intended to be submerged in gasoline. Gas will eat the rubber on the outside of a regular fuel line. Hope this helps.

Hi. My 86 Scirocco 8v broke down. The oil pressure light and buzzer came on. I open the hood and oil has sprayed all over. Looks like is came out of the front of the engine near the oil filter.


check and see if the filter is loose. if it is, tighten it,then refill the oil and hope thats all it was. if its tight, you need to refill it and then determine where the leak is.

1984 Scirocco won't start. New spark plugs, has fuel, fully charged battery. any ideas?


CHECK FOR SPARK AT SPARK PLUGS.IF NO YOUR DISTRIBUTOR CAP + ROTOR OR COIL COULD BE BAD.MAKE SURE COIL GETTING POWER COULD BE BLOWED IGNITION FUSE.ALSO HAVE TIMING CHECKED IT COULD BE OFF.YOUR DISTRIBUTOR COULD HAVE TURNED A LITTLE THROW OFF TIMING.

always check for the pressense of fuel and pressure at the fuel rail of the injectors first. you don't give me enough information to diagnose the problem. First thought is clogged fuel filter or bad fuel. 2nd, clogged injectors, bad plugs/wires...sorry can't write a book here...

How do i check if the fuel has air in it? 1985 golf gti 8v


What do you mean? In the fuel line? In the manifold? In the tank? In the engine/cylinders? Do you want to measure A/F mixture? I am guessing you are asking because your car wont start. I am also guessing it cranks and sputters to try to fire, but never catches and runs. Your 85 VW has three common things I'd check first. 1. The O2 sensor wires crack and the sensor quits working sending the car into limp home mode. 2. the cold start injector at the end of the plenum/intake is a 5th injector that richens the starting mixture until the car warms up... it can fail and the car will run like **** until it warms up and runs on the 4 normal injectors. 3. Before the intake plenum, the can shaped thingy with the metal flap/disc you may have tried jamming a screw driver in or pushing open with your finger is a metal flap that controls and senses incoming air and regulates the idle mixture. It has a few position sensors. Don't poke at this part or you will muck up some parameters that are difficult to re-align. If this is it, take the car to a VW mechanic. That little bugger is a real pain.

You had a missing relay before? To operate the pump you'd jump the perpendicular connections. As for the relay running briefly, that sounds like it could be a worn out ignition switch.

87' scirocco keeps dying


This could be a result of the fuel accumulator going bad. I take it that this car has the Jetronic fuel injection system. Accumulators are the NO 1 problem involved with hot starts. Hope this helps.

Hello there matey...I'v got a gti 8v anniversary!..it seems to have the same problem the day i brought it...some GTi's just do that...i have heard its got to do with the ECU..bringing fuel to the engine..they way i overcome the lag of a 8v was getting a Pipercross Viper induction kit!..I dunno if ur 4om england or america!?...here in england they retail for about £250.00!...but wooow! they make a different! the engine gets so much cold hair that it seems the pin is going to fly of! it flys past 5100 revs..and theres no lag!.. feels better than a 16v..also think of a ecotek valve made a alot of different even tho its used 2 M.P.G...
