Question about 1996 Ford Taurus

2 Answers

I have a fluid leak in my 1996 Ford Taurus, v6 duratec engine. The leak appears to be coming from a metal line (and possibly a 2nd metal line located directly below the first). Both these lines are located directly above what appears to be a power steering line. The lines (all 3) are in a tight spot visible when I peel back the mud flashing located above the driver's side front wheel. Without removing the rad protector and cover, or the mud flashing under the front of the vehicle, I don't quite know where the lines go, but one end appears to go towards the rad area. The fluid that is dripping is rusty colour perhaps slighty red in colour. What are the first two lines, are they tranmission related (perhaps cooling lines) and is the repair difficult. How would I repair if possible? Thank you

Does a 1996 mercury sable and 2001 ford taurus have the same engine

Its possible. In this time span Ford used two different motors, the overhead valve (OHV) Vulcan V6, and the Duratec 24V V6, which will bear the 24v DOHC badge on the front fender.

You might try alldata.com, but you'll have to pay for it and it's based on the Chilton's manual. So, that may not help you.

Have you thought of using silicon gasket maker on the metal to metal part?

1996 Ford Taurus 3.0 v6

Check the fluid as recommended by Ford. Do u have the owners manual? It will give the procedure. I'm quite sure your Taurus trans fluid is checked at operating temp w/ engine running, in park. U can also check the dipstick, Ford usually has the procedure engraved on the dipstick. The reason for checking the fluid as Ford tells u to, is because their method will give an accurate reading. As u can see from checking the fluid in 2 different ways, u got totally different readings.
