I am trying the back flush the radiator - which heater hose goes to the water pump - the top or bottom - my gues is the top.

Monte Carlo heater core


I don't know if top or bottom, but the heater core inlet will be the hose coming from either the intake manifold or a fitting on a cylinder head. The outlet from the heater core goes to the front of the engine, it goes into the water pump. I think all GM engines are like this, and almost all engine designs likewise. On a 1992 3.8L, for example, the heater core inlet hose comes from the intake manifold on the passenger side. The heater core outlet goes into a fitting on the water pump (lower front of engine).

I have a 1991 Ford Ranger 2.9,and I am having a heat problem I did change the thermostat but no heat yet,this is what I found so far. I checked top radiator and its hot,the bottom hose on radiator is cold....


ok in the engine compartment look at the radiator with the engine cold NOT ON" squeeze the hose with your fingers and feel if hose is crunchy or brittle if is possible a block could have happen locations /points at the vacuum heater valve gate on the heater hoses or a clogged up lower heater hose get a water hose and back flush the heater's hoses normal travel of water is from bottom to top so put the water hose to the tophose and flush backward and try to move the heater valve by finger and see if you get flow (mind you with hoses of the radiator DONT CRANK YOUR ENGINE)

If both heater hoses are getting hot, the problem could be a stuck blend door under the dash.
If only one hose is getting hot, there is a blockage in the coolant flow somewhere.

drain coolant system locate heater cores hoses going through firewall you need to buy the radiator flush kit at any auto parts stores. remove heater cores hoses from one end or buy extra long heater hoses same size as heater core hoses in vechicle at auto parts store use the flush kit when you flush through one of the heater core hoses let the other hose drain in a drain pan when you use home garden hose use low water pressure dont use garden hose to the max or you will rupture heater core. your best bet let radiator shop flush whole coolant system. because heater cores hoses are in a tight spot.make sure engine off if you just going to flush out heater core only .after flushing heater core good time to replace heater core hoses.if job too hard or complicated let radiator shop flush out radiator the engine block and heater core because if radiator stopped up or engine block stopped up the gunk and rust will reenter plug up heater core.if you tight on money you can flush out your own radiator.drain out radiator using large drain pan. remove top radiator hose and remove bottom radiator hoses connect to water pump.use garden hose with flush kit part with water pressure not too high put garden hose to top radiator hose run water until clear water run out bottom radiator hose in drain pan,the flush out engine block remove thermostat.if you had another spare thermostat housing with RTV SILICONE SEALANT THAT HAS SET UP INSTALL THERMOSTAT HOUSING BACK TO ENGINE WITHOUT THERMOSTAT FLUSH OUT THE ENGINE BLOCK, WHEN DONE INSTALL NEW THERMOSTAT THEN INSTALL ORIGINAL THERMOSTAT HOUSING WITH NEW ORING WHICH YOU BUY AT DEALERSHIP.IF ALL SOUND COMPLICATED LET RADIATOR SHOP FLUSH OUT COOLANT SYSTEM.

Heater gives warm air then cool air


That's usually a dirty,clogged heater radiator. How's your antifreeze look? If it's dirty,flush the system out.
But to get your heater working........look down on the firewall and you'll see a coupla' heater hoses entering thru that go to your heater radiator. The trick is to flush backwards from the usual flow direstion that trapped the debris in there.
The flow goes from the hose near the thermostat area into the heater radiator and comes out the other hose and returns to the water pump.
Take these hoses loose from the thermostat area and from the water pump,when the car's engine has cooled.
Now take a regular garden hose with a pistol grip nozzle(just the old cheap type) and hold it tightly to the water pump heater hose and force water back thru the heater radiator.VERY IMPORTANT! DON"T get any water in the alternator and don't let any get into the dipstick of the oil or transmission while you flush!!!
Make sure the hose is directed downward where the debris will come out. (you can tie a large white sock onto the end of the hose and you'll see the debris that you flushed out when you turn it inside out)
Now you have an option to funnel some radiator flush down into the heater radiator and let it sit for an hour,and then reflush the heater the same way and then reconnect the hoses.Enjoy! don-ohio (:^)

COULD BE THERMOSTAT IF TOP RADIATOR HOSE IS NOT HOT AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE GOING TO WATER PUMP IS HOT THE THERMOSTAT STICKING PARTIALLY CLOSE.IF TOP HOSE IS HOT THE RADIATOR,ENGINE BLOCK HEATER CORE NEED FLUSHING OUT.IF WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP, FAULTY WATER PUMP WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.REPLACE RADIATOR CAP MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50 / 50 MIX SOLUTION ANTIFREEZE AND WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM. then the water pump must be bad in it .Take the rad cap off and rev motor up if it goes down the the pump is working if it spays of look at the head gasket being damaged .Check and make sure spark plugs are not wet either if one is soaked signs of a leaky head gasket

How do i reverse flush fiesta radiator


(With the engine cold) remove the radiator cap

First drain the coolant out of the radiator in a container, either from a drain on the bottom of the rad, or by slowly removing the bottom rad hose.

Block, or pinch the top radiator hose

First, flush from the top... pour water into the rad cap hole for a while and let it come out the bottom hose.

Then, run water from the bottom, and let it run out of the open cap.

Then flush it from the top again.

This should flush the rad, unless it is clogged pretty solid.
