That would be for "high beam" and there is usualy a knob on the dash for regular head light on and off, if they work with the high low beam switch being pulled but not through the regular switch, you might have to replace the knob on the left of the dash. the dash is usualy held in place by a couple of screws by the cig lighter, and there is the two in the cup holder. the headlight switch module should be a easy swap out. You can obtain one at a local dealer. You may have to order it ahead of time. Also consider picking up a haynes or chiltons guide at auto zone or another automotive parts store. you can also obtain these online. But if this knob is suddenly not turning them on check fuses then consider replacing the headlight switch.

I believe it's very common for the headlight switch to go bad on these. also check to see if there is a headlamp relay that may also be bad. unless both bulbs have the normal lamp filament burnt out and only the highbeams are working.

Why does the high beam indicator stay on when normal headlights are turned on , the headlights and indicators will not work ?

sounds as though it may be a column stalk issue if all these functions are on a column stalk it may have become faulty.
It the light switch for main/dip beam is discrete may be a BCM or other electrical fault.
The first is the most likely but, as column stalks may cost a lot of cash, have a competent auto electrician take a look first

Does a 1990 Lumina have Brights? If it does I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Pull the turn signal stalk on the steering column towards you. It should click and the brights will turn on with the headlights already on.

Where is the signal flasher located

on the indicator stalk left and behind the steering wheel connected ot the steeing column if you push it away if will set the headlights to high beam if you push it towards you fully it will flash the headlamps.

the indictors to signal left and right are also on the left stalk push down for left and up for right.

the hazzard flasher is located in the middle of the dashboad above the radio and is a red triange depress once to activate and once again to deactivate.

if the wiper active at any time then try the stalk on the oposite side of the steering wheel.

High beams don't work

......No other History, symptoms, clues, things already checked?
Would check the fuses and relay box
Would check the manual (haynes or ?), if separate relay(has contact points that can fail by repeated arc damage like a switch) for high beams, if so could potentially test by switching high relay with low or a test patch wire from battery to the high beam terminal of the relay.
...if not fuses or relays, then potentially the column light/dimmer stalk which is a much bigger pain...
...could also spray some electrical contact cleaner into the column dimmer/light stalk switch and see if any result.
...So, start with the headlights and work back toward the switch---verifying that can get each stage to cause the lights to function by bypassing direct to battery current source.
...hope may have helped

Headlights and turn signals stopped working

First off, do you have a knob on the dash for the headlights, or do you have a lever on the column that turns them on? If you have the lever on the column, and you can turn on the highbeams by pulling back on the turn signal stalk, and hitting the hazard button turns the flashers on, then chances are the stalk is bad (it's called the combination switch and it's a common failure on the B5 chassis cars (the Passat and Audi A4)).

Try that out - hit the hazard button and see if the hazards work. Pull back on the stalk and see if the high beams come on (they should - toggling like that uses a circuit that is separate from the usual headlight circuits).

Post back up with the results of these checks:

Headlight switch on column or dash?
Highbeams turn on when turn signal stalk is pulled back?
Hazard button activates hazard lights?

Let me know what you find out and I'll be able to tell you more definitely.

Windows and Headlights

Two unrelated problems. For the headlights, do you have high beams if you pull back on the turn signal stalk? If so, and if your fuses are OK, your combination switch has failed (that's the stalk switch for your headlights). You have to remove the airbag and steering wheel to replace it. The combi switch is a common failure on these cars.

For the windows, double-check the fuses. Can you open the rear windows using their own buttons? How about using the driver's door buttons to open the rear windows? Let me know what you can or can't do in this regard and we'll take the window problem further.
