Hi: We have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. We need to remove the key cylinder but can't because there is a piece of black metal that is in the way of the release latch. The meal sits on top of and surrounds the entire cylinder. It looks like this piece in held in place by two gold-colored, smooth-headed bolts. Can we remove this piece of metal, and if so, how?

Hello. I can assist you. The black metal piece that you are referring to is a solenoid which allows the ignition to let go of the key when it is put in park. Remove the screws from under the plastic cover that surrounds the steering column. Next look along the ignition cylinder and you will see a spring loaded tab. Push that in and the cylinder will pull out. Now push in the new one and replace the plastic cover. Thanks for choosing Fixya! REgards, Joe

I thind you are talking about the steering lock plate, you need a compressor to push it in and remove the snap ring that holds it in place on the shaft, just a thought

Do I need a spring compressor just to remove and replace the front left and right strut mounts on a 1997 pontiac grand prix gt?

If your replacing it with a quick strut which is the spring, mount, and strut assembly then a spring compressor is not required. If replacing just the mounts then definitely a spring compressor is required. Please use extreme caution when compressing and removing strut assemblies as the springs maintain alot of pressure on them.

1999 grand prix gt 3.8v 6 error codes 300 and 302

The PO300 code is random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. Sinsc you have the code PO302, that means that cylinder 2 is the one misfiring, usually a bad coil pack, or spark plug.

1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT; Elec problem with fan

Replace the blower resistor that is mounted next to the blower motor on the passenger side of the vehicle.
This will restore correct blower operation and I suspect it is also back-feeding voltage resulting in your electrical issues.
Two screws hold the blower resistor into the heater case and it is very easy to replace.
Good luck

Try wiggling the gearshift lever when you put it in park. I have a Chevette that does the same thing. If that doesn't work, I would check the actual ignition switch that is down on the steering column under the dash. It could either be worn or out of adjustment. Any questions I'll be glad to help.
