Hello. Thanks for choosing Fixya! I can help you with this problem. The problem so far is that the place that is testing your a/c for leaks either does not have the necessary equipment, or does not have the knowledge to thoroughly look. You can put a dye into the system to check for the condensate that drips out of the evaporator while the A/C is operating.
So, in summary you do have a leak, probably in the evaporator which can be confirmed through a dye test. Call around and find a shop that does the dye test so that you can isolate the exact location of the leak... since it is most likely in the evaporator, expect that the evaporator will have to be replaced. Good luck with it. Regards, Joe

If it loses gas in 3 days, it has to leak, there is no other option. Being a Jeep. I bet the "evaporator" leaks.

You should have someone leak check the system with dye and gas sniffer. the most common problem with these jeeps is the evaporator leaking.

get a compression test. (same with all engines, with bad head gasket, you may see 2 cylinders real low. and classic reason.
the leak down on rad works too.
as does the blue/green dye test on same.
there are 3 tests,
sure.

My 2001 grand cherokee has the engine light on, the coolant is alwasys running low, and I have a evap leak

evap leak can just be a bad, gas cap or not tight. and is not an issue here. its just a tank vent.
the loose is serious
the collant called AF, (antifreeze ) can only go a few places.
1: to the ground.
2: to the passengers does, heater core leak.
3: to the oil pan, did you check oil for AF contam?
4: to the A/T pan, did you check the A/T dip stick for contam?
5: to the exhaust tail pipe tip, called STEAM.

find the the path and problem is obvious.

if all 4 dont pan out (pun intended) then use the 2 rad tests.
got oil in the AF, filler neck, on cold start, before start, off the RAD cap and look , got oil there?
does the rad leak down test fail> (a tool)
does the green/blue tester fail, (exh. gas in RAD found)>>>>>????
does a compression test fail,?
does a cylinder leakdown test fail..

all are simple tests.

My 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a blower problem. The vent/AC blows out of the floor and Defroster when I accelerate, when it is supposed to blow out the front. Please let me know what you think. I...

I think you are completely right. When you accelerate, you are opening the throttle up a little, or adding more fuel, either way, this causes a drop in pressure, which will cause the spring to pull the vent back into defroster mode. My friend has been dealing with this for years, and we still are not really sure what to do about it. What may be the cause, though, is if one of the vacuum hoses leak, it causes the lower pressure to lower still further, so check to make sure none leak.

You need to have the system pressure tested for leaks, sounds like theres a leak that leaking on to engine or exhaust pipe making the overheating smell. you may have a bad hose leaking.good day,

The cruise control stopped working and the ac will only blow out of the defrost vents...I read where this might be a vacuum line problem, but I am reading conflicting online info as to where it might be...

Do you have the 4.0 inline 6? If you here a sucking or hissing sound you have a vaccumn leak, this wIll cause the air to go to the defrost mode.THE ENGINE WILL RUN FASTER AT IDLE AND BE A BIT ROUGH..Firstly,i would look for a hose off, AT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD,split, or a bad vacuumn canister,or reservoir.do you here a leak inside,THE CAB,with engine running? The 1/4 INCH line runs under the battery and to the vaccumn canister, positioned right behind the bumper shell on the passengers side, there are 2 or more t's in this line you MIGHT TRY AND UNHOOK THE END AT THE CANISTER AND CAP IT OFF TO SEE IF THIS CORRECTS HEATER CONTROLS. iF YOU LOOSE ENOUGH VACUMMN THE SPEED CONTROL SERVO WONT ACCELERATE THE THROTTLE.Hope this gives you a start on a fix!
